Hi. I came here in hopes that I could find some information.

My fiance was looking into some equipment and I overheard him mentioning this particular item. I researched it and found out it's vintage and rare to find.

There are 3 on ebay right now and two of them are in the thousand dollar range which I simply can't afford.

My question is how much can I expect to pay for this piece of equipment or rather what exactly is it worth or is there a better item for me to purchase? He specifically mentioned this one, but I don't know anything about audio stuff.

Thanks!

I used to have one. It's a one-trick pony and rather noisy. It originally cost around $100.00. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Sorry I can't really help with a value, but in looking at the schematic, you definitely would be paying quite a premium for "vintage" at anything more than $100-$150. You could literally build one for $30-40 (half of which would be the project box to put it in, and half of the other half would be the microphone jacks). Others have commented that it is noisy. Maybe it is, but I don't see any reason at all in the schematic for it to be noisy, unless maybe it has a crappy power supply (not shown in the schematic contained in the manual). So I don't know. I certainly wouldn't pay much for it as an item to actually use, because for real money there are modern compressors that I think could do a lot more. If there were some magic in this circuit, I think there would be clones in the market given how simple a circuit it is. However, I can't speak to whatever collectable value it may have.

Here's a suggestion to get something of a price point. Watch the auction that ends later this week. You never can tell what people will or won't accept when they sell something, but that should give you some idea of what the item is "worth". The other two auctions have lots of time left. They both have a mic mixer as part of the deal, but it doesn't seem like that should be worth much at all, unless for some reason they are collectable.

Wish I could be more help.

A better choice is the new A.R.C. from FMR Audio. It does much the same thing with much more flexibility and virtually no noise. Info on this unit: FMR Audio A.R.C. Effects Pedal PM me for more details.

Nothing like a little self-promotion to help out a noob.

Post this stuff in the "for sale" forum downstairs, RRuskin. Don't pitch it to noobs in unrelated threads.

Hi bluerose - welcome to HR. Interestingly, you know that they did manage to finally develop a blue rose, right?

Anyway, how are you currently recording? I wouldn't recommend a hardware compressor to you just yet - and certainly not a vintage one. If you're recording on a computer now, try some different plugins to see what you like and dislike. Then we can recommend something appropriate.

But you WOULD recommend an ARC pedal, which by pure coincidence you are selling at the moment. Even though you don't have the foggiest idea what the OP is recording, or even what - if any - equipment the OP hopes to connect it to or what the OP might want to use it for.

Thanks for all the replies :)
SuperC, I have been a florist for a while ;)
I'm going to watch the ebay auction and if it doesn't get any interest maybe get it for a dollar. I won't feel bad if it's not great but cost a dollar.

He's not using it for professional recording or anything. He just really likes audio stuff.

I tried to send the OP a private message but could mot because the PM function has been busted for a while. Has it been fixed yet?
