hey, Im looking for a new condensor mic, something to record a bit of everything, guitars, vocals, and little drums.... Ive been searching and cant find any bad reviews for this mic. has anyone out there used it? come on theres got to be something wrong with it, it seems like too much of a bargain to be true.

Plenty of us have used it--do a search, there are 137 threads on this board that mention it.

I have two of them. Yes it is good for many things and many voices. I even use them live sometimes. There is nothing at all wrong with it, but it isn't the be-all end-all of microphones, just a solid basic cardioid condenser.

In comparison with other choices, I find it to be a little 'soft'. I haven't precisely identified what that softness is--maybe a little lack of high-end crispness, but it doesn't sound distorted. Hmmmm. It is bright, but not offensively so. The mid-bass is tight.

Things I really like it on:

1) Most voices
2) Choirs
3) Lots of percussion instruments, like bells, marimbas, etc.
4) Ambient mics

Two things I don't like it on at all:

1) My own voice
2) Acoustic guitars. Others report good results, but I can't get it to sound good. This could be due to laziness; I have plenty of other mics I like for that.

What's wrong with South Wales!?

That's where Doctor Who's being made :D

We now return you to your programme :)

I don't think you can possibly go wrong with a Shure condenser.

Shure is one of those rare companies that has always made professional workhorse tools that rarely sound bad on anything.

Investing in a Shure as your first "real condenser" is where the smart money is at in my book. You'll never outgrow it or regret the purchase. And besides that, the company itself, and it's customer service, are nothing but top-notch, A number 1.

yeah... sorry im new to this forum.... but ive checked it all out now. thank you all very much though.

im always weary when reviews dont say anything bad about something. every thing has its weaknesses.

Well there's nothing much to say. The KSM27 is like the girl next door.
