...Some nice looking studios... I'm just glad to be a 'recording dude' and not a 'construction dude' anymore! Ah, but it was all worth it... At any rate, here is my pride and joy:

Bruce: Thanks, man! You've got a great space. I've admired it from the first day you posted photos.

DDev: The curved section is 1x4 pine that has shallow kerfs about every 6" on one side. We then laid the 1x4's between teo sawhorses, wet 'em down, and applied weight for about 6 hours. This helped shape them a bit.

I asked about the soffit design myself and, if I recall, here is the deal. The soffit boxes are 3/4" MDF which is H-E-A-V-Y. The boxes also get two layers of drywall. Then, there is some space between the soffit boxes and the live room wall which will get insulation. Then the wall in the live room gets two layers of drywall. I had questions too but was assured there would be no problems.

Deathska: You can come up now if you want! Since I git laid off, building the studio is my full time job. We will be holding an official opening party when it's all done. I'll be sure and invite you.

Everyone, thanks very much for the kind words. It's been a long road to getting started but now we are moving right along!

Sure, I'll come up tomorrow and you can just put me to work. :D

But, I definately would love to come see it when it's done. I'll even bring my own mop so I can clean up my drool. :D :D

Here's mine... loosely based around John Sayer's design. BTW, THANKS JOHN! YOU RULE!

I'm never gonna record vocals at your place...

my fat self would bust through that trap door
and go tumbling down your staircase mid take :)

Velvet Elvis [/B]

Don't be so sure you'd fall through. I had a good portion of my gear in there, a bunch of keyboards, a pile of old peavey amps (which are very heavy) and a bunch of other stuff.

If I had to make a quick guess, I'd say I had a good 800 plus pounds on the floor.

It didn't even creak. Oh, and I was carrying the stuff in and out, so add another 175lbs.

Very nice lunatic - good solid construction - wow your plan has changed from the square rooms you first had :):)

cheers
john

It must be so nice to have a real studio and not just a pile of equipment in the corner! One day I'll be there...
All I have to do is stay alive!

John: Thanks! Yes, the plans have changed a lot haven't they? I'm sure it's very obvious that I had help ;) I just cannot wait until the construction is done so we can start enjoying it!

DeathSka: How are you with a soldering iron :D Seriously, though, if you want to you can come out anytime.

I'd take your studio in a heartbeat too. That couch is looking pretty comfy. I've actually thought of removing my bed from my bedroom and replacing it with a day bed or couch fold-out to maximize the space for recording. Sleep? Who needs it?

And, if you need any interns...just let me know. Info from another thread...;)

The couch is one of the most comfortable Ive even had the pleasure of sleeping on. If I get to the point that I need 2 interns I'll let you know. Id have to move out again for that. My wife is going to be mad, I moved the studio into the garage and NOW the clients start coming...I think its the christmas lights :)

I'm actually pretty good at soldering. I spent almost a year as an electronics tech and now that I'm an engineer I still spend a lot of time soldering stuff. We've got a couple of Metcals here at work, the best soldering iron I've ever used.

I might even be convinced to do some soldering for trade in studio time. :D

And I'll seriously think about coming down sometime. It's quite a drive from up here though. I'll think about it.

That is just sick, and wrong!

Oh yeah, nice studios everyone! Must make you actually want to get to the music...me, I spend all my time cleaning out a space to make music. Needless to say, ain't much gettin' made in my place.

Ciao,
K.

Bruce,

Where did ya get the cool black barstool? Anyone got some suggestions on where to get a nice barstool for guitar players and such?

And the control room rear wall. The traps on the bottom are sealed and separate from the absorbers on top.

longsoughtfor-

are those halogen lights- i had a teacher that had haolgen tracks in a studio and he said they would crackle and pop for the first 5-15 minuts they were on- he said he learned that the hard way
:) and had to retrack a few things- just i thought-

looks like a very nice place btw

Yeah I had a question on the halogen lights too. I'd like to put them in my control room and hall but I know they use transformers. They would be on a separate "leg" coming from the breaker box (like all my lighting) than my recording equipment. Opinions/Experiences anyone? I really like the look.
