I'd been recording for years & realised there must be somewhere for people to ask Qs & get As so I googled "free recording forums" & this was where I ended up

you and me both! in fact, i think it was someone over at the UMGF that posted a link over here. i started reading and never left. in contrast, i haven't been to the UMGF in years. i got tired of the "taylor vs martin" threads.

when I've realised suddenly "I'm not alone" other people have the same problems

AMEN! i couldn't agree with you more. :D

please don't think i'm trying to "down" anyone or this forum.....b/c if you come to that conclusion, i'm doing a crappy job in expressing my thoughts.

cheers.

Pros, amateurs - it doesn't matter. Theres a smattering of both.

I've heard pro level stuff recorded and stuff where I hope they will never lose their day job (I think that's my category).

It's all fun. Just do it and enjoy it.

Should I leave Homerecording.com?

I believe that if homerecording.com interferes with more important things -- like seeking professional therapy from a licenced, clinical psychologist or drug counselor -- then I would say yes.

I tried to get a job of of this site.

I think you came to the wrong place for that. This isn't a job site. I might recommend something more appropriate. Try Monster.com , Hotjobs.com , or my personal favorite; Careerbuilder.com.

If you skate with local kids you are a local skater. If you skate with the pro's you are a pro.

Again, I think you might be confusing this site with a "skating" site. We don't generally talk about ice skating, skate boarding, roller skating or even snow boarding on this site.

I wish i could get fired from my job and live off of unemployment for nine months to make my cartoon, but i have morals so i guess its not in my cards.

Oh boy. I'm not even going to go there. Some perspective might be in order here.

In summary, Cartoon ... Your main problem is that this is a site for home recording enthusiasts to discuss recording. You came here with a completely different agenda. And just whatever that agenda is ... it is obviously very complex and hard for sane and rational people to comprehend.

I think you could benefit from some professional therapy. I get the sense from your posts and the way you word things ... that your thoughts are somewhat disorganized. You're probably a very talented person, and sometimes with very talented and driven people, it is hard to maintain a sense of balance in your life and to feel "normal." I've gone through it before myself, and still struggle with the whole concept of normal. :D

But I honestly think if you were to try some sort of medication, you might be able to find a sense of organization and balance to your thoughts. You seem to be a guy who strives for perfection, and is willing to dedicate yourself towards a goal. If you were to apply these attributes toward your day job, rather than "hoping to get fired so you can collect unemployment," then I think you could be a more successful and happy person.

Good luck.
.

Can you really collect unemployment for being fired?

Does that mean I can punch my boss in the face and get checks in the mail for it?

Oh, and Chessrock, why do you put that . on the end of all your posts? It's really tedious and bothers me, it makes me want to erase it.

Refreshing point this guy makes...I dont spend so much time here...Im producing a film and getting it done...I have to work a second job to fund it...and working on the project takes the time away...everybody should consider doing thier art rather than talking about it on a BBS.

away I go back into the unknown...lol

christ you make it sound like people spend every waking hour here, I come here for a break from my work, being in the fortunate position of being a gigging recording person that is working on about 4 different projects simultaneously

no

you have to be laid off

not quit or be fired

I put the goddamn period at the end of every post,

because I don't have a sig line,

and without a sig line, there's like zero space

between the end of my post

and the bottom of the box or whatever. :D

So everything looks scrunched at the bottom

and it's harder on the eyes.

So why don't I just do a freakin' sig line?

Because I have absolutely nothing witty to say

So I'm just going to go with the damn period, alright? :D

In Washington state you can collect unemployment when fired for poor performance, but not if your employer has evidence that you broke a company policy or broke the law while working. Washington is an at-will state, and an employee can be terminated at any time for any, or no, reason.

Some of you guys are talking like you have too much first-hand experience with this subject.

:D

Why would anyone overanalyze a site like this, and the people on it? It should all be about fun, music, and the making of that music. I read through almost every thread here, every day...I got plenty of time.... :D

I try and help out when I can, but mainly just learn about what is being stated in the various forums. I spend a great deal of time in the MP3 clinic, as I love to listen to music...but don't overanalyze it. Try and comment when I have thoughts, but otherwise, just have fun.

Lumping people into catagories just doesn't seem right....if so, by post count, Chessrock wouldn't know anything, anf The_BomB would be king....

Oh well....back to drinking.

Later.

What i NEED is free time to record and self teach... I am leaving homerecording.com. the few hours i spend on here a day i am going to dedicate to recording.
So why not just check in once a day for a few minutes and don’t let it interfere with your recording? Doesn’t take much time to follow particular threads of interest each day. Put one of those little plastic kitchen timers next to the computer screen and set it for 10 minutes... and when it rings close the damn web browser and make music. :) Doesn't have to be a big deal.

Ah, life's little problems. I should be scratching my crotch but can't get my finger out of my nose.
Take back the time you spend over analysing the forum, multiply it by the time you've spent starting this thread, wind back the clock by that much & then get to work.
Come back & visit when you WANT/NEED to.
OR Visit your grandmother.

I don’t know what you’re going through or at what crossroads you have found yourself in life, and you’re right, there is no substitute for actual time spent recording, but you know sometimes one has to simply step back, take a break, regroup, refocus, make a plan and execute it. I don’t think anyone would fault anyone else for doing as such, however instead of painting percentage based broad strokes like a revelation of the obvious (Congratulations, you’ve discovered it takes all kinds.) it might be more advantageous to use the worldwide diverse networking available at your fingertips here at HR. For example, there must be at least one member in your area with a studio that you could befriend and ask to sit in on a few sessions for out of the house, away from the computer, “real world” experience. There are also a few professional and semi professional voice over members here as well. And then what of the MP3 clinic? Some folks in bands and others self produced have really decent work, maybe you could ply your talents to make someone an animated music video. A good song keeps ppl watching and a cool toon keeps’em listening. What about those with mid to pro level studios that have web sites or bands that boast an online destination? Perhaps you could explore animated website content. I’m sure there are members here into those areas too. The point is, you’ve invested a year here, are doing something unique and are well liked, but before you write it all off have you truly looked at how to make this site work for you? Have you held a voice talent audition thread? Out of the amount of ppl here there must be a few “Characters.” and what of the writers, story tellers and naturally distorted fucking hilarious nut cases that abound in the cave? It seems there must be ppl that could write funny as hell script content for animated work. I know one member is into radio drama production and a few others have experience in acting. There are many ways to skin that damn cat and some try to think unrealistically BIG and keep dreaming while others think realistically small, but in a million ways and their work gets out there in the world and known. The ppl that “Make it” never relent, never quit and never stop exploring every avenue of opportunity. If you really believe in your toon then neither should you. Finally, take for example Jamfest, a small informal member get-together, with an unrelenting “Ad campaign” (Mister QQ). Jamfest, because of the relentless approach has become an event that draws members from across the nation, from other nations and now probably from the other side of earth! THAT is what networking can do here at HR.com. To walk away from the possibilities of nurturing the many facits of your vision into a success is something I hope you’ll at least reconsider.
