Oops. Well, I just posted this in the Tascam section, but u know... it works in both.

Have had a lot of interest in the project and was referred here, so I figured I'd share.

Ok, the 9600.

Tascam M3500 + M3700 + US2400 = The SMC9600

In service, sounding AWESOME, and more mods to come.
I've done opamps in both master sections and all busses, about to do channels.
I've star grounded, which was a huge improvement.
After doing opamps and caps in all channels, I'll build new supplies, or at least beef these up.
The new opamps have enough additional draw that the board would suffer in large mixes.
(Both sides are still powered independently. I was thinking about combining, but that might be a bad move.)

Check this sucker out!!!!!

Looks great Shorty! I had previously followed a couple of threads of yours regarding these consoles.

I've recently picked up both the M-3500 and the M-3700. I'm also in the progress of re-chipping the channels too. I'll be replacing U101 and U102 with OP275 is channels 1 and 2. I'll then replace U101 and U102 with OPA2604 in channels 3-16. I'll also replace U103, U201 and U202 with NE5532. As for the master section, everything in there will be replaced with OPA2132. All I can say before you get started is don't forget to add 0.1uF ceramic bypass caps to pins 4 and 8 as newer, faster chips than stock have been known to oscillate.

I do have one question for you. How exactly did you implement your star ground? Did you only connect a Ground to each group of four channels by cutting 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the J207 ribbon cable or did you run a ground direct to each channel?

Can't wait to hear back, well done on the progress thus far,

Kris

P.S. I have 2 full LA-3500 kits. I was hoping to use them but I could be swayed to part with them for the right price ;). PM me if you're interested. Also let me know if you need any knobs, faders, modules etc and I have plenty of parts.
