Slowing becoming un-noob.
So right now I have my mics set up like this...

Is there a better way to go about it? Like the xy pattern maybe? I keep wondering if I create phase issues or not.

What do you guys think?
I'm using two naiant mics.

Thanks

Elliot

It depends.... are you using the overheads to get an image of the whole kit? Just cymbals? Are you close micing the toms as well?

If you're just using them to get your cymbals, a spaced pair like that should be OK, especially if you play with placement. I find that moving the mics slightly closer to the center of the kit then angling them out helps.

If you're using the overheads to get the sound of the whole kit (not close micing any of the toms) then the Recorderman or Glyn Johns setup might give you a better sound/stereo image without worrying about phase issues.
