There is nothing wrong with the Epi VJ I have 2 of them and there great for recording and playing with. Actually one is a V special with a 10" and reverb.
I got them both for a fraction of what I payed for my Fender Supersonic.
The supersonic may sound ten times better but it also cost 11 times more
so I guess that makes it a bargain.

sorry im off topic. but i never said anything about epiphone amps. ive heard good things about them and almost bought a blues deluxe.

these are swiss price levels.

I do have the H&K blue line 30 now... there it stands 2 feet from me . it's definitely a cool little amp. not only for a solid state... and not only because I paid only 200 swiss franks (167 USD) for it.

and for the other dudes... yep, you're going a bit off topic.

A couple pedals in front of a blues junior is about all the versatility you're probably going to need, unless you play metal or something.
