SE 2000 body for DIY project?

That mic body is plenty big enough , I believe Mshilarious actually built a sub mini tube mic into an XLR connector ... But if your going to build a Tube mic You might as well build a real tube mic .....

I built almost 200 of them . . .

Subminis are entirely different beasts than the usual mic tubes; enjoy them for what they are.
 
I'm going to build a G7/Royer mod crossbreed with 5840. I hope the XLR swap is doable (with cutters and welding at least;)).

It's probably possible to use a 3 pin XLR to do a tube mic, if you take advantage of the chassis as ground you actually have four pins. Then do high-volt phantom into the trafo and use the extra pin for the heater. Any other voltages you should be able to derive internally.
