Insane Genious!
Yesterday when mixing a song I suddenly notices a large hum on channel 5 of my Fostex A-8LR. If that channel stops working I suddenly only would have 6 free audio channels, since ch8 is consistently used for syncing the MC-50. Not good.

I fiddles around with the Fostex a while, and after turning the NR off and then on again the hum disappeared. Phew!

I need my current setup to work for at least a year or two, until I get the money to buy a good 16-channel digital porta. :)

Lucky Escape!

My A8 (non-LR) is on the way out, I'm sure... most of the meter lamps have gone out, and the "fast" rewind has to be helped along with some forefinger. They were amazing for the price, I think I got mine at about the lowest they ever went. But not the most robust machine, not surprisingly.

Weirdly enough almost all of my meter lamps are still working. :)
I bought mine cheap, but had to shell out the same amount of money on calibration tapes and manuals after I realized the calibration was all weird. :)

Anyway, it was still cheaper than any digital 8-track of similar sound quality, so I'm happy (and saving for a Yamaha AW2816).

Yo Regebro:

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. A 2816? Now you're cooking.

Green Hornet

Why? Don't you think they are good? I was under the impression that you owned one, or at least have used one extensively. Don't you think it's worth the money?

I seems to have everything I need, and to my ears it sound pretty darn good.

You know Regebro I think you are smoking iced tea.

Of course I own the 2816. Of course you were presenting a case of quality with the "other" Yam unit AW16. Of course you are flying off into obscurity. Of course you are balmy. Read the post by Cratinus and get back to normality.

I'm all done dealing with a teenager or the mental equivalent of one.

May you never lose your sense of sense of sense.

As usual, all you have to offer is abuse. Never any help, never anything substantial, just abuse. Ca't you just leave me alone? I don't need your abusive beheaviour. I don't care about your personal problems, could you please stop taking them out on me?

Regebro:

You have problems, not I.

You contradict your words, not I.
You offer only opinion; I quote the manual.

So, If I think the 2816 is better than the AW16, you don't have to agree.

I have no interest in your ego or id. I am addressing thoughts about recording units.

So, why don't you mature.

Green Hornet:D

Is this what it is about? Do you think that I don't agree that the AW2816 is better and has better value? Do you think I have been badmouthing the AW2816?

Yo Regebro:

Bad Mouth? You? Nawwww. Never.

Green Hornet

OK, so show me where I badmouthed the 2816. Put a link to the place.
