NO USB MICS!!! None of them are better then a "real mic and pre."

Is this ready for ordering yet?

I wanna get it for quick and fast recordings with my friends. And I don't want them touching the good stuff. :D

I think I saw something a while back about BLUE coming out with such a thing.

I will eat cominginsecond all together if this thing is any good.

oh ya, and BLUE did come out with one, but it wont be available for purchase for a while. Its called the BLUE snowball. Id put a better bet on that over the sampson.

I don't find anything wrong with the theory, it allows you to eliminate a hell of a lot of circuitry which could be a great thing if done correctly. The real difficulty would be keeping digital and switching noise out of the analog sections.

Theory aside though, its a samson and I've never seen a samson that didn't suck

I'm not sure about this whole USB concept in a mic (guess I'll have to wait and see for myself). I'll agree about that Samson statement though. However I have one particular singer that I use for sessions that brings a crappy C01 whenever he shows up. And believe it or not it often gets used because it flatters his vocal range better than any other mic we have tried (without adding additional EQ). This is probably in part to the Focusrite pre we track with, but for brief moments in time the Samson does come through on top.

The real difficulty there would be keeping the CPU from causing constant audible variations (chirps) in the power level as it naps, speed steps, etc. Remind me to add some additional fist-size ferrite chokes to the computer power supply before even -thinking- about using a bus-powered amplifier circuit, much less a mic-level ADC....

Combining stuff is not good. It's not just a mic and a pre, but also an AD converter and USB audio interface. That means sound drivers. I dunno about you but I cannot WAIT for the questions to pop up in the sound interface forums about whether you can use two USB mics simultaneously with Cubase or Sonar...!</sarcasm>

Before you know it there will be a guitar/DAW/CD-Burner combined into one. Can't wait until that becomes a reality! Maybe they will have an "acoustic" version. Then I can finally dump my Martins/Santa Cruz/Great River/Soundelux/Mackie/Delta 44. My wife will love it because it will get all that crap out of my office and I'll be able to keep the door open when company comes over :)

so USB hubs are tomorrow's mixers??
naaah

my mics pick a lot of noise from the computer, and they are in different rooms (with the door open)...now imagine having the mic just next to the computer
i wonder how long the cable is

hmmmm can usb cables get interference??
may guess is that, if its mic/preamp/convertor, then the wiring between them is extremely short so it would depend on the usb cable
anyway, is there really a tiny preamp and convertor in there?? hahaha how are those things made??

So how do you adjust the gain? Do they have a phase reverse switch hidden on the back? A pad switch? Anything???

Yelling louder increases the signal strength. :p

So I guess unless these have super-low sensitivity, then they won't be good for screamo huh...

maybe you could use it to record like ideas for songs in the car bathroom or what ever

not for serious recordings, i think

There are a lot of ways that the gain could be adjusted, a no brainer would be to add a digital potentiometer.

It was intended as more of a sarcastic statement, but oh well...
