Hey guys, anyone have any experience using a pair of these as overheads for recording . . ? I'd like to hear some feedback on how they sound.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Looking for a voice with C02 experience.

The duck fart comment wasn't really that helpful. Have you actually used these mics personally? They came highly recommended to me, for the money, and seem to be pretty damned good. It's only been a few days, so we'll see. Anyone out there with some brains willing to comment on these mics?

apparently, these things suck

maybe take a step up for not much more man - MXL 603s - get 2 of em. they work great for most uses, i use them all the timeon acoustic guitar. for overheads, just be careful because the mic boosts the highs a bunch - so sometimes it sounds harsh. could proabaly use some eq to em for overhead use.

Man...and I need to sell a pair of them too. :\

Honestly, they're usable mics and well worth it...just not at the 120 bucks they are out of Sam Ash. They need a lot more gain than other SDCs in the slightly higher tiers...like the 603s and the ADK SC1s. They can get a good sound.

(But of course I'll say that, since I'm selling them!)

Honestly, if you have the money, get the 603s. You can still get them for 200 bucks new off of ebay, even thought most retailers sell 'em for 270...

Thanks for the info

Sklathil,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your honest assessment of the mics. From my perspective, it still feels like it was worth the price, but I may just be too much of a newbie to tell.

As for shackrock, your comments were based on, well, on nothing at all. In the future, if you don't really know what you're talking about but instead are just repeating the stuff that other flaming, know-nothing posters (posers?) have lipped off, keep it to yourself. Thanks.

jesus are you kidding me? HA! I think you have an anger management problem. I:
a - said nothing to make you mad, i dont even know how it could have been misinterpreted to make you mad...at all.
b - was actually trying to help you (imagine that!). I've read some reviews on these things, talked to people about them. because before I got my 603s, this is what i was looking into as well. I tried to let you know that perhaps the better choice would be to go one step up before buying these samsons.
c - so how the HELL do you get what you got out of that?

thats just feeling rediculous, i have to laugh! ha.

and sorry, i'll never help again!

My guess would be that the person that "highly recommended" them, and
the person that sold them to you are one and the same.
You would have done well to reseach before you bought the samsons, not
after.
As for the above comments, they were being helpful. You ask for an opinion
and you got it.If you want someone to tell you that the samsons are great
mics,go back to the guy that sold them to you.If you want the truth come here.
But dont take our word that the samsons suck, plug them in and put an acoustic guitar in front of them.In no time at all you will realize that they
are some noisy P.O.S.'s.
Hope that helped.

Well, never used a C02, but this track used C01's for everything, except the close drum mics. I don't believe it's all that hissy, haven't listened to it for a bit. (You can hear the room at the beginning, which comes from the acoustic track.) The noise will depend a lot on your pre-amp as well. This was back about a year and a half ago when I was much less experienced with mixing. Also, the drums were done to two tracks, but you still get an idea for the over head sound, which was two C01's.

I believe the C01 and C02 are similar, but don't quote me on that.

I'm not claiming it to be good or bad here, just providing an example of a mic that may be similar.

th number escapes me right now but i have the samson with the switchable patterns ,and i have an MXL also both were in the 100$ range i use an alesis 6 channel mixer into a Tascam 4trk then i stick everything thru cakewalk to mix to a cd ,as you can see i have a minimal setup i think they are fine mics for "my budget" now i will admit the MXL is better for the vox but the samson is more versatile because of the pattern switch ,just my 2 cents ....and yes you kind of asked a loaded question but it boils down to what you like ....i mean to a studio regular they may sound like duck farts but to someone on a limited budget they're fine ...
