Cad M179

Speaking of multi-pattern mics, a few posters here like the CAD M179. It's an inexpensive (or should I say affordable?) mic.

Recommendations anyone?

There is only a handful of Chinese mic factories and Marshall, Behinger, Studio Projects, Samson, Nady, and etc are all fighting for the same budget mic market... most of those mics are made in China by the same factories.

797 Audio, Fielo, Soundking Audio, Fengli, Marshall Electronics, SE Electronics, and etc.

That's six distinct factories, not including the etc. Perhaps they do, but I'm not aware that 797 make any Marshall mics (though the MXL's I've heard do sound awfully nice). Nor I am I aware that sE makes any Studio Projects...(but maybe they do).

Six factories is quite a range, actually, without even taking different vendor specs into account. Ricoh used to make the Nikkormat cameras for Nikon, but the specs/tolerance ranges of the Nikkormat completely exceeded the specs on the Ricoh branded cameras.

I wouldn't worry about it with the SP mics, because if there is anything wrong with it, PMI will fix it or replace it for free... even if you're the second owner.
That's another irresponsible claim and unwarranted assumption (not based on fact, but presented as a fact) from you, DJL.

Cad M179

Excellent, clean, affordable entry into the world of multi - patterns
I have since acquired a C3 and prefer it but would buy another CAD if it were gone

God, I hate it when you say stuff like that Harvey... now I have to go find Alans warranty post and repost it here... grumble, grumble. Studio Projects has one of the best, if not the best warranty. Anyway, I'm off searching... grumble. :(

EDIT: Ok, here's the post...

As the President of PMI Audio Group, I wish to make the following statement to this group.

I don’t care who it is, or where it comes from. Should anyone have a problem with any one of our products, we will fix or replace it at our option for free. For the last three years, we have received microphones that were burned in a car fire, left in a basement and submerged in water, and yet we have fixed these all for free. None of it was under warranty. We have not charged for any repair, even from those who have bought our mics “used”. All we ask is that you send it in to us with a copy of your purchase receipt. This would include people who say bad things about our mics.

As for DJL’s agenda, you all must realize, it is not about me...It is about him.

Harvey... that's ok, you don't have to apologize.

DJL, I did not see that post before, so I do have to apologize for my remarks. You were right and I was wrong.

Thanks for the info Big Kenny. Do you mean that if you lost or damaged your CAD you would not hesitate replacing it?

I have been looking at SP mics too.

I'm waiting for my MXL V67G to arrive. And next week should be a fun week. I'm expecting a RNC and DMP3 to be arriving any day now too.

Once I have explored the MXL V67G’s sound, it will be time to look at acquiring another mic. (Or maybe if I stumble on some irresistible deal somewhere…. :D ).

mmmm.....RNC and DMP3......

The wife is tightening the screws on the GAS of late. It's been a while since I've been able to indulge my prolific propensity to purchase pretty paraphernalia...

Christmas is coming, alas... I must now purchase toys for the children :( :(

and to think, she got nervous when I told her that the MD421 cost $300

for christmas...i want a soundcraft spirit m12, a new computer, new monitors and a new mic....i wrote it all down nice and neat for santa clause and then my mom told me that i havent been good enough all year to get that.

No problem Harvey... :)
--------------------------

I've never used the CAD M179 before, but I've never heard or read anything bad about it, and the hr.com memebers who own it seem to speak highly of it... so I think it's worth checking out/auditioning. I think I read somewhere that the Spirit has the same preamps and EQ as the Ghost... I don't know if that is true or not... but I like the Ghost. Oh, and the RNC is a great little compressor IMO.

Early Xmas

I have had a bad bout of GAS lately. No doubt about it.

I after discussing things with my wife, she has given me full license to update/upgrade my current gear situation. And I have volunteered to forfeit any idea of “additional” xmas gifts come December. Yes with the DMP3, RNC, MXL V67G, used Behringer Bass V-amp pro, new Berry UB2442FX mixer, a used Mexican Roland-ready Strat, and used GR-33 guitar synth, it has been a WONDEDFUL early xmas. :D :D :D

Now it’s time to record and plan the design, size, and layout of my hobby studio that I will be building in my currently unfinished basement.

(Of course I’m always looking for great deals for buying more mics. ;) )
