I do all of my tracking in another room... Long mic cables and headphone cables... Why do you need to see the monitor to record? Why do you need the mouse? I cant figure it out.
Actually, I have my amp head in the control room with a long cable going to my cabinet in the next room so I can record guitar while sitting at my PC UNLESS I want to use feedback, in which case I have to be in the live room with my cabinet using a wireless.
I guess this is meaningless to you since you record acoustic guitars.

Ola, you rascal, you really want my monitor cable, don't you?

S8-N: when I record, I click on the record button in Cool Edit. That's why I need the monitor and mouse to record - to see where to put the click. How do you do it? When you've got a computer, I mean... :)

I leave about 20 seconds of blank space at the beginning of the song. I click "Record" and then walk down the hall and do my tracks. Then I walk back down the hall and click "stop". After the tracks are all recorded you just cut the blank space out.

Preroll is the way to go. Wish I had another room to walk to. I hit record, about 15 Secs preroll and step back 7 feet.

This is not very efficient as far as time goes, and in some ways, Rob's idea makes a lot of sense. I get my drummer to do the same thing, saves time running around.

I'm sure there is an alternate solution Dobro, but it may be some $$ involved.

Dobro - Do you know the price of good monitor cable in Sweden? I can cost you up to sixteen reindeers per foot. I'll send you a small herd of slightly used reindeers and some powedered horn (for you potence) if you can smuggle that cable past the guards...
