For those of us who remember the lessons of fifth grade social studies a bit vaguely, I offer my tune "Sacagawea."

I'm interested to hear what people think of this recording. Does everything sound in place? Is the bass too heavy? Are the vocals too good?

I also hope to not offend anyone as this is not meant to be a strictly factual retelling of the Lewis and Clark events.

Look forward to your comments.

Sounds good on my system (Roland md8 computer speakers).
The bass is in good balance.

Funny.

The guitar gets a bit repetitive, I keep waiting for a change.

Acoustic guitar sounded good. How was it recorded? What kind of guitar? Sounds like you doubled it.

man the git sounds great ..nice vocal "stylings"....hehehe..hey wait a minute....i live one block from the "old oregon trail"...shit maybe someof that sculdugery happened in my yard????....."mighty missisip"...love that part....man if this just blew up with a full on drumset and hard rock guitar ...*hint*...lol...anyway...very cool man.

The coin that changed a nation

Sacagaweeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!LOL,this is rich! The vibraslap is a nice touch. What inspired you to do this it's worth way more than a shark fin...

thanks for all the good compliments, fellas.

Jake - I also thought it was a bit repetitive. I co-wrote this with a friend of mine when his guitar skills weren't too strong. We basically kept it simple so he wouldn't forget and now we can't go back on such a gem.

Part - the acoustic was actually recorded rather shabbily, but doubled. One acoustic was my '82 815 Taylor played with a medium pick. The other was an ovation celebrity played with a super thin pick. I mixed it to accentuate a lot of the upper mids. Not as substantive, but I thought it added something. I needed some kind of layers for three chords!:D

Both were recorded independently through a good old NT1, btw.

BD - someone who gets their handle from The Life of Brian has my unending esteem anyway so I'm glad you liked it.

Jamal - Good to hear from you. BTW, I still have Opposite Land on my machine. Great tune. I put it on a mix for an old friend and she loved it too. I actually think mine needs the same trapset/dirty guitar treatment you mentioned. I have a kit but I need someone who can play it. I can do the guitar bit with my les and a pod but I don't see the point without the pumping drums. I'll give it a shot though the next time I drag a real drummer into the room.

WISC - Good old Sac was written just about the time the coin was released. The shark fin line is worth more than a shark fin.

Also, I had just interviewed Cake for an article and bought the vibra slap pretty much because I heard them use it. The inside joke is, the comedy duo that did this song has four others and they all have oddly placed vibra "slaps". I hope to post some of the others soon.

thanks again dudes.

Sack Sacagawea. Is that like "bagging?" Man, I can't wait to hear how this evolves over the next few days. LOL.

Oh, and let me just add that even if this has a tinge of the old "novelty" stigma, your vocal is freakin' great. I like vocals and stuff. I'd comment about how the gits probably need to be EQ'd to kill a little bit of the pick noise which which starts getting out of control later in the track, but I have a feeling that it's all gonna' get lost in a blur of Les Pauls and drums in the near future.

:D

I try with the voice Chris. Thanks for noticing. And I'm psyched to hear what drums Jamal comes up with. Whatever it is, it's better than I can do on them. But I can do the guitar wailin' though!

that mentioned, you certainly have my go ahead to hit the skins on this one Jamal. Have fun with it.

sounds like you were having a big time with that tune, I did when I listened to it. It would probably be an ace tune to play live.. :)
