Hi All,
I have a Sony DTC 690 DAT recorder/player. It has a S/PDIF out via digital optical cable.
I have a lot of my old mixdowns on DAT tape and want to archive them on my computer. Right now, my only computer is a HP laptop running Windows Vista, so I am looking for some type of outboard device that would take the S/PDIF output from my DAT player and get it to my laptop via the USB connection,
I recently purchased a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi HD outboard device that Creative said would do the job, but it does not recognize the digital signal from my DAT player, so I returned it. Creative support was next to worthless.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks so much for your help!

Rich

A usb device may turn out to be expensive, but have you considered a converter from spdif to analog? That way you could go into the computer's line in port?

Something like this perhaps?

Thanks for the reply.
The laptop only has a mic input for a mini plug.
Plus, my hope was to maintain digital, from the DAT to the computer, rather than going through a D/A converter, and then back to digital again.

THat's fair enough.
Check out an Maudio transit if you can find one, or the Edirol UA-1EX :)

Sorry so long in replying...out of touch here

Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't look like either one of those has a S/PDIF audio/optical Input.
The digital output on my DAT player uses a TOSLINK cable.
I can't believe I can't find something that will do this!
I may have to pull out my very old desktop that has a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy II soundcard. On the front breakout panel, it has a S/PDIF audio optical input.
If anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Thanks again!

Rich
