Running Reaper from flash drive

OK, I get that you can do it, but does that mean you can run it on different machines and only have to buy it once? I know you could only run it on one at a time, but let's say you had a desktop pc at home for your home studio, but also wanted it on a laptop to take to track rehearsals or shows.

Also, in that instance, could you switch back and forth between 64-bit Vista and 32-bit XP Pro, or do you need a specific 64-bit version?

And is there anything you can't do, or any pop-ups or anything like that, during the evaluation period, and is there a specific time limit?

You're free to install it on multiple computers as long as you're only running it on one computer at any one time. The exception to this is when you're using a ReaMote system, since multiple instances of REAPER have to be running in order for it to work.

Also, if you're switching between a 32-bit and 64-bit operating system, you're better off just using the 32-bit version of REAPER. It will run perfectly on both. The only limitation is a max of 4GB of RAM, which you'll very rarely hit anyway unless you're using huge sample libraries in your projects.


The evaluation period is 30-days, but it will still continue to work after that. After the 30-days, there will be a pop-up when you first open REAPER asking you to register. You can close it after a few seconds.

Answered my questions perfectly, thank you.

I guess I just assume that you have to have the 64 bit versions of stuff to run on Vista64 since I've seen software (and hardware) that says it doesn't support running on a 64 bit os.

Glad I could help!

Yeah, there might be some programs that aren't compatible, but it's pretty rare (iTunes is a good example..)
With hardware, it's most likely because the company hasn't written a 64-bit driver for it.
 
I have Reaper installed on my PC and Laptop, and I do just what you intend . . . use the PC for recording at home and the Laptop for outside recording.

I also use a common USB hard drive, so that all the music files are kept together.

There is one other thing that you need to keep in mind. Unless you intend to use the laptop just for capture, and do the bulk of editing and mixing work on the PC, you will need to install all your plug-ins on the laptop as well.
