What does "best" mean?

I'll bet Andres Segovia, Chet Atkins, Eric Johnson aren't on that trendy list. Anyone who says they aren't near the top of being "best" is woefully uninformed and narrowly focused.

Top 10 best colors... blue?... red?.... green?
Well said that man! These are precisely my sentiments too. Whenever I see a Top 10 list, this is exactly what I think...

Have a virtual pat on the back Kelly.

Opening the vents.

I personally didn't see the list, but (As usual) I'm sure Rolling Stone has it's head so far up it's ass that it's gonna disappear into itself and reappear in some distorted parallel universe..., You know, the Bizzaro world where Averil *Laviegne REALLY IS Punk.

It's insulting that the various media attempt to feed us thinly veiled commercial's in the form of lists and countdowns.. Not to mention the completly insane award shows!!
(For Christ's sake just have a fucking investors banquet and skip the overblown "Talent" show huh Emp-TV?... I need a fucking award for not snapping after seeing the same bullshit video 5 times an hour!!)

It would have proved far more interesting to ask each of the hundred guitar players who THEY THINK are the best instead of some fools craping together a blow off list the equivalent of a sitcom clip show!!

P.S. Don't even burn that Rolling Stone... You might accidently inhale the fumes!!

:)

VanHalen is #70?
Good Lord! What is this world coming to!

I think the list is pretty screwed up. Probably the list was complied by someone in their 50s or 60s who's only familiar with the old Rock players. This list is a sham. I am of the firm opinion that new players blow guitar players from the 70s era. This largely due to improved ergonomics of the guitar and better amplification systems.

And most players are completely overated. Eric Clapton? I have seen 12 year olds at GuitarCenter play better than most people on this 100 list.

How about Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Jan Akkerman or Stevie Ray Vaughn. These guys are incredible players. I don't know who the White Stripes guy is, but I bet he's nowere close to those guys.

Top 100 magazines written by fucking idiots....

BB KING???????????
BB KING?????????????
I aint no guitar guru, but i would stomp bb's big black hiney into the ground with 1 arm behind my back.

i guess with all their GREATEST guitarist choices there wasn't any room for les paul or chet atkins either. guess them boys shoulda practiced more.

maybe if clapton practices his 1 note blues twang he might be able to surpass the GREAT BB KING!

pete townsend #50?????????????????

they probably got george thorogood down at #12 or something. man that guy can tune all his strings to a SINGLE CHORD and slide a slide up and down them! he is awesome!!!

zappa, belew, fripp, summers, jeff beck...
even paul mccartney plays better than some of those guys they listed.

I AM GONNA PUKE!!!

I would hope The Frippster is on there.
Any sign of Link Wray? Randy California?

Steve Howe has to be there.

omg haha. i see some of them as being in alright bands but sucky guitarists.. JACK WHITE OF THE WHITE STRIPES IS #17. He is NOT the seventeeth greatest guitarist ever to grace this planet. i mean, some of his songs are okay, but how can they possibly say he's a great guitar player? kurt cobain? same thing. i love his songs, but i mean... guitar player. what the hell haha.
