Hi,
I'm looking for a good microphone that has that bright sound and I'm wondering if a Rode NT1-A would do me just fine or should I just get AT4040? I'm trying to find a microphone that can be used as a general use for vocals.
And this will be hooked up to a Edirol Fa-66 (dgatwood :P)

Any ideas guys? I appreciate it much . Thanks :D

AT all the way between those two.

at mics are used professionally all the time by big studios. not too many rodes these days being used daily in the same situations. just more useful and the better AT mics even have some magic vibe like the big german mics (to a certain extent).

The few Rode mics that I have used were too bright and prone to sibilance. On the flipside, I've never used an AT mic that wasn't useful on something. I'd say AT also.

It is a case of matching mike to voice.

However, I have NT1 and NT1A, and I'm happy with either.

K cool, I was eye-ing the AT side more too. But budget wise, is it worth it?

To be fair, that previous comparison was comparing a small diaphragm AT mic with a large diaphragm Røde mic. They're going to sound radically different, and for vocals, even the worst LDC is likely to sound more flattering than even a good SDC.

I like the AT2020, but not for vocals. For vocals, the CAD M9 is my current favorite of the mics I own. It's an tube-based LDC mic with op-amp-balanced output.
