I was planning on purchasing this mic, but could anybody tell me how this mic sounds? Warm? Transparent? Dark? Bright? etc? I was looking for a Warm mic for around $300, and a guy on rapmusic said this mic would fit my voice well ... so any help?

P.S. I'm going from an AT4040 to Rode Nt1000 and was feeling iffy about the change ...

Mine's a little more on the bright (transparent) side. When I need "warm" I go my AT 4033.

So The Rode Isn't As Warm As He Says It Is ... Hmmm

Yea I Might Save Up For The 4033.

You'll want to try it. "Warm" is not a scientific description. When your friend says the NT1000 would work well on your voice, that's something to check out. I don't use terms like "warm" or "bright" -- I try different mics and make mental notes of which ones work on which singers. I have one regular client who won't let me set up anything but the 4033, and another who hates what it does to his voice. Microphone selection is not a matter of arbitrarily calling one or another by a label, but is the result of trying different ones and deciding what works. There have been situations where I use a different mic on the same voice on different tracks, and I can't believe my experience is at all unusual. Mic selection, moreover, is a very personal business for a singer and I wouldn't just buy the first one that someone suggests. And don't buy one without trying it: you are almost certain to be disappointed.

Good results with the NT1000

...and in defense of the NT1000, we have tracked dozens and dozens of great vocal tracks (many were rap or dancehall reggae which is similar) with both the Rode NT1000 and more recently the NTK in our commercial project studio (and quite a few have been released on indie and boutique labels)...both have given us excellent service...but trying either mic for YOUR voice is crucial...not to mention, your room, your setup, etc...

I assume you also read the replies in the other thread?

I assume you also read the reply I gave you in the other thread where you asked the same question?

If not, you might want to check there also: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=154325&page=2

... just don't want to type it up here again, so just a few afterthoughts:

As hinted on in the other thread, of the highly subjective characteristics you mention above, I'd say it is more transparent than coloured, on the brighter side rather than dark, with the somewhat characteristic Røde sound. Mine is "warmer" than a C1, but that does not make it "warm" (whatever that means).

The preamp makes a big difference!

For some reason it seems to be a "sleeper" mic, not getting too much mention. That does not make it a bad mic or a good mic, just not so well-known, it seems. People either seem to go for the NTK or the NT1(A). The NT1000 is the solid state variant of the NTK, with identical capsules.

You should really test it!

Aight, Thanks Everybody I Really Appreciate Ya'lls Help. Reason Why I Was Getting Rid Of The AT4040, Was Because It Was Too Bright and Transparent. I Don't Want To Lead Another Bright Mic, I Was Looking For Some Coloration. The Guy I Know Suggested The ADK TLC, but I Simply Cannot Afford It, Yet He Said The Rode NT1000 Would Suit My Mid-Ranged Voice Well.

Also, If I Go To Guitar Center To Test It, They'll Set The Mic Up And You Have To Listen Thru The Speakers As Your Talking Into The Mic, Sort Of Difficult To Hear The Whole Sound While Doing That.

On The Otherhand, I May Just Have To Save Up Some More Money For The NTK, 4033, or ADK.

Oh and by the way, I have a Roland MMP-2 preamp. So, I can adjust the sound pretty good by using the built in EQ and compressor.

Oh and Baek you said the NT1000 is more bright than dark and more transparent than colored, then this mic is simply not made for me. I'd say I'm looking for a more "colored" microphone, but not on the bright side nor the dark side, sort of in the middle. If I had to compare what sound I want to a mainstream artists vocals I'd say Snoop Doggs, his vocals have a warm sense or coloration to them, which I like. Also Obie Trice and Ludacris' vocals, have that "sound" I was looking for. Yet I "heard" that Snoop Dogg uses the BLUE Blueberry or maybe it was the baby bottle Microphone (not sure though), but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be good for my vocals though.

Trial and Error is a bitch. Haha

I'm back again. Jeeeez. I was just reading a Mic Flavors chart made by Dan Richards. It showed that the Studio Projects C1 was a colored yet bright mic, basically what I'm looking for, but this may be too bright. Also, I've boosted up my money from $300 to $400 or $500, so could anybody suggest a colored, and slightly bright mic that would suit my voice around that price range.

Sorry for clogging the thread.

You'll never find a suitable mic by looking at charts or asking opinions. You're going to have to try some out.

Alright, I'll check it out. Wear can you purchase these mics from though?

Not sure where in the world you are... I'm here in Denmark, and www.aage.dk sells ADK mics. But if you are not in Denmark, this is probably of no relevance to you whatsoever ;-)

Did you check with adk on their homepage if they list any dealers?

8thstreet.com sells them.

Ayo baek sorry to keep bothering you, but what about the AT3060?
This CEO/Engineer suggested it'd be best for me .. what type of sound does it provide? bright? colored?

I was just tracking a vocal three days ago with a 4033, and it sounded like crap to me. I then pulled out my NT-1 (my NT-1000 was not available) and redid the vocal and really liked it. I do not have a good voice, but it is ok for my material if I work at it. The NT-1 is similar to the NY-1000 except the 1000 is better all around. I record really flat and add eq later. So if I like the sound when it is tracked, I know it will only get better. My 1000 is my favorite vocal mic for both me and my partner (female with a really good voice). I find the Node adds a color that really communicates the emotion that the vocal is sung with. I consider the 1000 (and the NT-1 as well) to be a warm mic.

There's a color for that? Does that color work with every emotion, or just some? What if you're singing without emotion?

I've had a NT1000 for about 3 years. It's a good mic, but it's stayed in its bag most of the time, because I have something better for each application. I've tried, but I absolutely can not use it for female vocals.

I love my NT1000!

I've been recording all sorts of folks through my NT1000 - mainly stripped down acoustic stuff.. both vocals and acoustic guitar. It has a great tone. I've heard it described as a valve tone.
I think it's a fantastic mic for the price and although I agree that it agrees with some singers voices more than others I would highly recommend that you demo it... But for acoustic guitar I'd say it's nie on perfect (especially for the price)!

A very proud owner

Alright thanks Bob.

This is my last suggestion then I'll leave everybody alone. lol

What about the BLUE Bluebird microphone?

I heard it's real smooth, and I CAN AFFORD IT! YAY!

Anybody know anything on that mic?

Thanks

Snippy, aren't we? I don't bother if there is no emotion to communicate.

Sorry if I was unclear. Of all of my mics the NT-1000 best communicates what I am trying to convey emotionally while I sing. I am certain there are many mics out there that would do so better, but I don't have one.
