Hello,

I recorded my firends playing their original tune called Phenomena. I would be greatfull to hear some comments about the song and the sound. The recording was made in oldschool fashion. The band played live, we made a mix and recorded it straight to 2 track tape recorder - so analog all the way through. There are no compressors or any other sound procesing - straight from mics to tape.

I only have a Youtube link, so I hope it's not a problem:

Thanks

good job, kinda early doobie bros. feel to it.

The tape does sound nice, digital needs some TLC to get that pleasant sound to it. Do you know what year that Studer is?

The sound is nice. It does have an old 70s vibe to it, which is cool. The song itself is cool too, but it seems like it's missing something. I'd like to hear another guitar track or keyboard. As is it sounds like a 70s live show, and there's no problem with that, but it just seems like there is a hole in the arrangement. The mix sounds great though.

Great stuff. I think you did an exceptional job tracking the drums. I guess they kinda shine to me, because that's what I have the most trouble with.

Hi thank You very much - the tape recorder dates from 1966 and the mixing console is from late '70s

Thanks - I was afraid of recording the drums but it went ok. I recorded them with 4 mics in Glynn Johns configuration and without any processing at all. It was a great sounding kit (Drum Workshop I think) so it made my job a lot easier :)

The drums and bass sound great - that kick has some serious whomp. the guitar sounds a little weak in the mix - almost like it was DI.
