Riser Purpose and Construction

Although some carpet will be placed in our current drum room, both the live room and drum room have concrete floors. I was thinking that using risers would help eliminate some sound leaking between rooms and perhaps also improve recrodings. Can you tell me if the reason for risers is to improve sound seperation between rooms or does it infact improve recording quality? How much would a riser help with a concrete floor, and are they only used on drums and bass or guitar amps as well? How far away from the concrete walls would you place amps & drums for optimal sound?

Finally, what are the best ways to construct a riser? Any plans out there you know of I could take a look at? Would it be better to have insulation inbetween the risers joists or just dead air?

Thanks,

Mongoo

I dont think you're drum riser is going to do any good on its own. Now if you start talkin about isolated floors and walls and ceilings, then you'll be getting somewhere. But that is VERY costly. Id spend the money on a heavier wall between you and the drum room. With a concrete floor (slab on grade- basement floor I'm guessin) you probably are leaking alot more sound through the wall than through the floor.
