right place?

Greetings from Oregon, newbie here, will keep short, as last lengthy effort got lost somewhere. I'm a competent musician/composer, not so competent techno-anything, have a Yamaha MO6 which I got for real-time playing/recording, currently using 1% of its potential, methinks, due to its complexity and leanings towards patterns/chaining/sequencing, which is not my field of interest (great sounds, however).
Q1: Am thinking that a digital recorder/mixer like a Korg 1200 or Boss 888 might allow me to spend more time composing/playing/recording real time (via MIDI), and less time scratching my head. Am I deluding myself (adding another layer of complexity/compounding problem)?
Q2: Is this the right place to get this kind of info, and if so, what do you recommend? (I know, compound question.)
p.s. I think, given limited $/tech-knowhow, that computer-based recording is beyond me. Looking to maximize real time playing/recording, minimize time mixing/scratching my head. Thank you in advance for any input. Treading water here....

I'm also in Oregon... Howdy neighbor!

The Korg/Boss/Any digital recorders won't be able to do much in the way of recording Midi music for you... Midi is a series of instructions that, when deciphered and acted upon by a proper sequencer, creates musical tones, adjusts volumes, adjusts faders, etc. Digital recorders will utilize midi for synching to other midi devices, but you will need a sequencer to record/play your songs. (Hopefully I understood your question/intent)

Yikes. Thanks, BentRabbit, for your patience/welcome, sounds like you definitely understood my questions, and I will be following your advice re the sticky link. The MO6 has an onboard sequencer, but other than very basic recording, it's a bear for me to work with. Was hoping some sort of outboard gear (another sequencer, apparently, thank you) would simplify (as opposed to complicate) recording and allow me to take better advantage of some of the MO6's capabilities, and let me spend more time playing. I'm probably dreaming, but any more advice/opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

To simplify your experience - record the audio, not midi. Leave the midi to your sequencing equipment.

I have done a little bit of sequencing. Just dable.

Am I wrong saying that if he is going to use the MO6 then he must use the sequencing in the MO6. I know there are some midi functions in daw software but have never used them.

What I have done in the past is make a loop(s) or a repeatable segment of the song in the sequencer (reason limited to be specific). Import that (wav file) into your DAW then within the DAW duplicate and arange the blocks. Too me this saved time and was easier to see what was going on in the arrangement because you can tag a name to each block knowing what it is rather than doing the entire arrangement in the sequencer. But this will require you to learn your way around the daw.
