Remo Heads

I just tossed a Remo Weatherking on my snare it hasnt been on there for 2 hours and its got more dents than my older one. What did i do wrong. It is the cheap model of Remo, Less than 20 bucks Canadian. Any clues?
 
The problem with the head is that you should have rubbaged through the stacks of useless remo products and found a evans coated g2 dry. For the same price, you get a much better quality. The same goes for the toms, hydraulics or g2's. And the bass either the new Emad or go with Aquarian super kick 2.
 
What gauge/weight is it?
If it's a diplomant or an ambassador and you hit hard-hell yeah it will dent big time, but an Emperor should hold up since it's a 2-ply head.
It's for that very reason that I use a clear Pinstripe on the snare, because I hit hard.

JBlount, I think you mean the HD genera dry. Tim, if you're going through snare heads too quickly, look at some of the heavier weight snare heads. Remo emperor's, Evans aramid, etc.
 
Damn, they had evans there.....Its an ambassador frosted. I wasnt hitting that hard....in comparsion.
 
Do you play many rimshots?
What sort of angle have you got the snare on? Maybe you need to tilt the snare back a little so it sits flatter
 
it'll dent real quick if it's real loose. if you're going for a lower fundamental tone, maybe a larger snare is in order? how's that for a 300 dollar solution to a 20 dollar problem? :)

i'd try some other heads first.
 
Tip style on your sticks will also make a big difference. I tried out a pair of nylon tipped Vaters (don't remember model) and looked down after about 5 minutes and noticed dents all over (I don't play hard at all while practicing...recording is another matter). They had a kind of larger "barrel" tip.

I wouldn't suggest a 2-ply head unless you like that sound. I would suggest any of the single ply heads out there by Remo, Aquarian or Attack that have a reinforcing dot on the underside of the head. However, if you like the 2-ply sound on snare than by all means...

1. More than likely it is way too loose. I'm assuming you are not going for that disco snare sound, so get in the now and tighten that fucker.

2. One problem in addition to the above is that you probably have your snare tilted a lot which would cause where the stick has contact with the head, it would slide a bit. Adjust your tilt so that the end of the stick is coming straight down on the head.
 
Remo, Evans, and Aquarian all make quality drumheads (I've never used Attack, so I dunno). Your choice should be based on your taste for certain sounds. I use all three of these companies heads and I like them all for different reasons on different kits.

Everyone is right, you done did sumthin' wrong. Wha kinda sledgehammers you playin' with? :D

Tighten up your snarehead and get your snare at about the level of your waistline, you might have it too low and are finishing your strokes with the point of the stick. That'll dent 'em real quick.

Good question, and don't be too hard on yourself, just make fun of yourself when you find you've done something wrong, that's what I do. This is fun y'know.
 
Im using 5As wood tip, I changed the angle a bit today, still dents, i tighted it a bit more, anymore and its gonna tear trust me. Maybe i got a bad head?
 
Yeah, maybe a new head is what you need, I play 5AB's and never have any problems with the evans. They hold up pretty good, and that is not to say that remo are all bad, you may have gotten a bad one?
