relaminating transformers ( Flatpicker)

Hi Flatpicker, did you get around to relaminating the transformer mic yet, I was just wondering how it went/ what steps you took etc.

I will have my new cores for laminating soon so im just looking into rounding up what other supplies I might need ( tape, glue varnish etc).

Anyway, if you have the time when its done please post something about how it went.

I’m not sure when I’ll get to it – too many projects ahead of it.

From what I understand, all you do is heat it up with a heat gun (a hair dryer set on high might work) and the wax (or what ever is holding them in) melts and they pull right out. You then just slide the new ones in, wrap some kapton tape around it to hold them in, and you’re done.

Marik would be the one to ask as he has done this, I think.

Yes, I have done this.
Flatpicker mostly answered your question. You can use any tape to hold it together. Teflon, found in any plumbing supply store would be just as good. Don't put any varnish over the new lamination. The wax used in original one is mainly to avoid corrosion. If you got Ni core you won't have any problems.

when you say telfon tape do you mean a kind with an adhesive back, or a
pipefitting tape.

Just use black electricial tape. I just said kapton because it's sometimes used to wrap transformers, not to mention it looks way cooler than black tape.
Nothing magical about which tape you use, though.
