Sweet job man, I knew King Crimson are great instrumentalists.
But this says a lot about you as an instrumentalist, this is fecking huge man.

Forever impressed, great work madz, on of the most ipressive things I`ve spotted on this mp3 clinic.

Thanks a bunch for sharing.

You`ve even nailed the sound great, I`m lost for words.

Naka takes a bow for the allmighty Madz

Send me the tracks for Towers of London and I will knock it out for you. :D
I just might take you up on that! I remember I did a test vocal track just to try matching Mr. Partridge's original melodies and inflections, but I didn't like how my voice sounded on it.

The files are on my old computer, so I need to fire it up and transfer them to my new computer. I'll let you know when I have and see if you're still interested.

e - Wow, I'm on an iPod! Cool, thanks!

Naka - glad you enjoyed it! I figured you might.

OK, here's a cover I did of this classic King Crimson song about 8 or 9 years ago. This was recorded analog on my Tascam 38 and mixed down to DAT (Tascam DA-30 MKII). This was around the time that I got serious about engineering, but I really don't remember all the gear I used. Me on all instruments.

Anyway, enjoy...

Hey Madz!

I have never really listened to King Crimson a great deal, but I enjoyed my listen to your version of "RED". The guitar tone is very fitting of the era recorded.
The tune was a little too long in my opinion, but that is just my opinion. :D

Nice work Madz! :)
Thanx for sharing with us!

Gorty :)

I love King Crimson... nice job!

I like the reverb on the drums; just enough to open things up. Sounds like there might be a little strange clicking on the kick drum? (shows up quite a bit around 2:35) Bass work is fantastic.

Great mix.

That sounds GREAT. :D
Yep.

Interesting rhythms in it. Drums are tight. I like that short high bass passage where it peeks out once in a while (that's peeks not peaks :D )

The guitars maybe lack a little dynamics in the way the parts build but this is from an already mixed DAT right?

Nice guitar tone.

Thanks for the comments, Timothy! I played with a click track, so that helped me keep it tight.

Yeah, this is an old mix, and I'd have to get my 38 fixed to remix it. Unfortunately that's an expense I can't afford right now, but one day....

nice tackle......KC is a huge influence for me and i wouldn't dare...you know...."play" their music...i would have to quit and sell everything after i heard the first playback.

do you have a stick?

swatsds - no need to say anything, but thanks for listening!

turtlishous - thanks! There are other KC songs I've wanted to cover, but this was the only one I felt capable of doing any justice to! (read: capable of figuring out how to play!) :D

refin - thank you, sir!

Sorry, my brain is not available for an online search. :D

I will tell you that upcoming covers I plan to post are XTC's "Towers of London" and Brand X's "Cambodia."

 :D

MAD,
Thanks to you & this thread I now live in hope. People may find & listen to 1st era Crimson & REJOICE. Now, how about doing a version of 21st Century Schizoid Man so that the youngun's get to hear a true metal storm? EMOtional, DEATHdefying, METALlic & all pre digital (dial up a generic) distortion.
Now, having emoted so foolishly I'll go & listen to No Pussyfooting to mellow some.
XTC covers - wow, & didn't they do an excellent cover of All Along The Watchtower? White Noise & GO2 are almost uberclassics.
