Recordingvocals not instrumental

hello i'm not sure if this topic has been previously posted, but i have recently ran into trouble recording vocals. when recording i am somehow recording my instrumental also. only way i don't record the instrumental is if i mute it which defeats the purpose. I ran into this problem a couple years ago but forgot what i do to solve it. Please help

What DAW are you using? it sounds like you have your instrumental track 'armed' . Are you recording over your instrumental? like.. is it overlapping it?

im using sonar. im recording in 2 different tracks. its not armed but i will double check 2 b sure. i appreciate you taking the time to help. if anyone have more ideas of what i could be please post
