im sure this has been asked many times before. im not new to recording i just want to use a different program. i currently use mixcraft 4. probably going to upgrade to mixcraft 5. but until then what other programs are good for recording vocals over tracks?

Heck even Audacity has some decent tools for beginners. But if you're really into the whole world of recording then I wouldn't waste my time with beginner software, see if you can get your hands on some trials of the big boy software.

Reaper is free to try for 30 days and dirt cheap to buy - $40 if you qualify for the discounted version. Powerful piece of software, don't let the price fool you!

Have you had problems with Mixcraft 4?

I just went through this same thing. I checked out the trial versions of Audacity, Reaper, N-Track and Mixcraft 5. IMHO, Mixcraft 5 blew them all away.....hands down. The Tech Support forum is outstanding, if you haven't already registered.

If you've already registered your current version, you'll probably be eligible for a discount on an upgrade. You might want to check it out.

Same here. Seems to have EVERY tool I need. As a newb, it doesn't seem to be lacking in anything.

Within two hours of downloading the 14 day free trial, I had a song tracked using some available MIDI loops, along with my own vocals and guitar tracks. Bought a fully licensed version a couple of days later and couldn't be happier.

It was VERY easy to figure out. And the step-by-step instructional videos on YouTube are great.
