Recording Setup Question

could i use a mixer such as the Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer and take those red/white outs into something like the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 USB Audio Interface
and have that work out? i've never seen an interface like that, and never recorded with a mixer. just a yes or no would be appreciated. thanks, guys.
 
Theoretically, yes - It should work.

Crappy little cheap interface. Mixer is for MIXING. Again, why?
 
Yeah, it'll work. The little Soundcraft notebook mixers are actually pretty good--I used several of them a few years back when I had to build some edit suites for a broadcaster who needed to stream some video. The model you mention is now discontinued though.

What I can't vouch for is the quality of the Behringer interface--it's pretty clearly "built to a price".
 
OK, you got some simple answers.
Now questions: what exactly are you trying to record? What's your budget? What other equipment do you have?
 
Yes it will work, Behringer interface is only 16 bit but actually sounds OK, I use one to play music from my laptop and to record live demos of the band from the desk at gigs. If you just want to get a few demos down it's fine.

Because the interface has no input monitoring function but a mixer could provide it.
 
...and a mixer allows you to have several sources permanently hooked up for recording (one at a time) without repatching every time.

It all depends on work flow. It is certainly very possible to record very well without a mixer and, for many applications, it's a very good and efficient way of working. It's quite right to ask the question "why do you want a mixer" since many newbies just assume it's the way to go.

However, there can be good reasons to use one--there's no right or wrong answer.
 
I know why I use a mixer, and the reasons for using one, but the OP didn't give us details ...
