Can anyone help ?
Just working my way around it all. If I access a sequence in a vsti, (in this case demo of moog modular)I can hear it ok, but how do I record it?
Up to now, I've done a few audio tracks and some midi, by entering directly into the key editor, but I can't figure this. Sorry if it's a daft question.
Thank you

You could always physically route a cable/cables from the output/outputs of your soundcard to the input/inputs to record to a new audio track.
You would then be playing the VSTi while, at the same time, recording the output to a new audio track.

Tried connecting output to input but although it recorded I got a high pitched screeching all through it. Is it going in circles?
Also, if I get this done ok will I be able to sync it to other midi tracks?
Thanks

It's possible that you have a loop going on. This all depends on your soundcard settings. You would have to be certain that you are recording from only the physical inputs you are using and not some monitor mix setting. It could also be a problem with your gain staging (getting your levels set properly).
As far as syncing to other MIDI tracks .... I'm not quite following you.
My suggestion was for simply recording what was being played by the VSTi as an audio track. That new track would not be MIDI, it would be the MIDI file rendered to audio of the sounds produced via the VSTi.
I don't use MIDI myself, so I'm not the best authority on the subject, but my limited understanding is that .... When you record a MIDI track, all you are actually recording are the MIDI instructions. You then assign the output of that MIDI track to a virtual instrument or to a sound module. The actual sounds produced don't get recorded. To get the audio produced by a VSTi, you need to render the MIDI to wave.
Using an external sound module would require sending the audio output of the sound module to an input of the soundcard and recording that as a new track.
At least that's my understanding of it and I hope I haven't insulted your intelligence any. Just trying to explain my ideas of it all.

Thanks again crankz1 for taking the trouble to reply. I'm sure your understanding is correct, I just haven't got my head round it yet. I'll check the card settings because I think I do have a loop.

In all my efforts...
Simply exporting the audio mixdown exports the VSTi part as well.
That's the beauty of using a VSTi, as opposed to General MIDI...
