Hello Everyone,
I am attempting to record my Roland TD-20 electric drum kit using the TD-20's direct output jacks.
I connected each of the 8 direct out connections to CH1-8 on my firepod, but only the first two channels are loud enough. Last night I looked through the manual and it said not to connect devices that are use their own preamp to CH1&2. I've used this setup to record my Acoustic kit for years, but the TD-20s are a recent purchase.
Does anyone have experience with the direct output of Roland's brains? I turned up the Firepod volume to max and CH3-8 are still very low. CH1&2 are so loud the firepod volume is one "1" or "2." I'd rather not have to use an extra mixer, but we might have one to test with.
In case it helps, here is my setup:
two Firepods daisy chained
FP1=CH1-CH8 Roland TD-20 direct outputs
FP2=Mics for 2 guitars, 1 bass, 4 vocal mics
HP4 head phone monitor
windows 7 Pro 32-bit
Adobe Audition 3.01 (default settings on all tracks)
Dell E1505 laptop w/ firewire
Things I have tried:
successfully used main L&R output on TD-20 to record using CH1&2, but not the 8-direct outputs
all outputs produce sound (just not a lot of it)
Things I haven't tried, but plan to:
swapping cables
type of cables TS/TS vs. TRS/TRS vs. TRS/XLR
testing firepod CH3-8 (used previously, but not recently)
adjusting the output levels (briefly looked at the menu, all were set to the same volume)

thanks for any assistance,
Nic
