Help!!!
I record to a Boss 16 track digital recorder and am having a tough time getting my bass to sound right.
If I get the volume level close to where I want it, the sound is distorted.
I have tried tinkering with the on board compression but don't understand exactly what the adjustments represent.
I have also tried preamping the bass through a tube-preamp and that helped a little but I'm still way off.
I am looking for a crisp, clean sound with zero distortion.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you talking about the Boss BR1600???

If so, I record my bass tracks (the majority of them) by plugging in direct with no effects on!..........Just make sure you don't clip when setting your db levels and everything should be sweet!

Is the bass guitars pickups in good working order!

Another set up, I plug direct in and use the clean sound pre-set effect No1....Just tweak the reverb around to suit and make sure you it sounds clean when tracking!

I hope this helps in some way! :)

This is not to be insulting, but helpful: Make sure your bass is plugged into the high impedence (guitar/bass) jack on the front, right side of the BR1600 and not the low impedence jacks on the back of the unit.
