ok so heres the deal im trying to setup my new toshiba satellite l455d-s5976 ,win7 32-bit, amd sempron to record . given that this laptop is not the greatest in the world it should be enough to record. i had not been able to get the mic input to work pluging in directly the sound would come out very distorted like i had an arsenal of effects all on at once, difficult to make out put it that way. anyway im simply trying to record guitar using audacity, since i was having trouble with the mic i went out and bought a m-audio mobilepre preamp/audio interface, the sound comes out fine now but only plays through right speaker i cant even here it out of the sub woofer. can some1 help me with this????

Your description of plunging into the mic input on the stock sound card sounds accurate and to be expected. You did the right thing by getting an interface. So, you get clear sound and Audacity records it- you're on the right track, and almost there. The fact that you only get playback on one side tells me you didn't set up the track right in Audacity. When you create a new track, you want to make a mono track and select the appropriate input from your interface. Once you've recorded that mono track, you can pan it left or right in your mix. Also, I'd ditch Audacity. Your MAudio interface probably came with something- try that or go download Reaper. Audacity is a pita, imo.

M-Audio interface.

Your interface should have came with better DAW software then Audacity (Pro tools basic?). Make sure you go to device set-up option and have the correct input and outputs selected.
