Recording duplicates previous track...??!!

Hi. I have recently started using Cubase and I've encountered a problem that has never happened before. I record one track (drums) and when I come to record another, track 2 duplicates the previous drum track on it. It does record what I'm about to record on track 2, but insists on copying over the drum track as well!

Any ideas why this is happening?

Yup, this has been answered at least 25,000 times in the four (five? yikes!) years I've been here. Try a search on "track bleed" for a start... there's also a very current one in the Cakewalk forum here...

I've looked in the posts about track bleed and this doesn't really answer my problem. What happens is what you'd expect to happen if you wanted to mix over track 1 onto track 2 but I don't want this to happen. I must have some sort of mixing down button 'pressed' somewhere but I don't know where.

What?

You're not understanding what you're reading, then, because the solution for this has been posted, like I said, 25,000 times (well, maybe not really quite that much.)

(... AlChuck does a search...)

Oooops, I get you now. "Track bleed" was a bad choice for a search unless you put quotes around it. The quotes tell the search query to look for the phrase, not the individual words. Without them you get posts with "track bleed," just "track," and just "bleed." Sorry, it takes a while digging through the results returned from that search to find the relevant info to your situation.

Try this for a search term--with quotes around the phrase: "what u hear."

The first one that shows up is the very current one I mentioned from the Cakewalk forum.

....I had this happen to me this week when I set up a recently acquired computer fo do some recording. I looked high and low for a software problem, with no success. As it turned out, I had my mixer hooked up wrong, with everything that came out of the soundcard line out being looped right back in. It was driving me nuts, but I feel much better now....

Welcome to the BBS musicdavid.

Double click the speaker in the lower left of your screen. Go to options/properties and click recording. Uncheck everything but your source. That should take care of your problem.

AlChuck is right about searching before you ask but if don't have any luck and you need to, feel free to ask away.
