i did a quick search of the forums but didn't quite find the exact answer i was looking for. basically, what is the ideal mic placement for recording accoustic guitar?

any info would be great thanks.

There is never one right answer, but the placement that most start with is:

Mic placeed in front of the sound hole, but angled toward the 12th fret (to avoid too much low end). Again - this is simply a starting point - after you have determine the best place in the room (where the guitar sounds best).

Some people suggest having the mic point down from over the players shoulder near the players ear (which captures what the player hears) - I've never had much luck with that approach.

hi there,
Experimentation is the key...the type of microphone that you have will have a huge impact on the sound that gets recorded. It's very hard to get a good recording from an accoustic guitar with a dynamic mic, no matter where you place it. They are just not sensitive enough.
I like to play a scale and record it, and then listen to it and move it around till you get what you want.
Good luck.
Jason
