Hi folks,
I'd love to get some advice and input from you about speakers; basically my current hi-fi speakers are about to give up the ghost so I need a recommendation for a new pair. I have a very old pair of Gale 5s (some 20-years old) that I purchased before digital home recording was even a twinkle in my eye, and I primarily purchased them due to price tag and their sound when playing vinyl (yeah, I'm one of those!).
What I'm looking for now is a pair of speakers that preferably don't cost the earth and will sound good with:
1. Output from my PC to use as monitors for home recording through my (admittedly ageing) NAD 304 amplifier. I play blues and blues-rock and record on bass, rhythm & lead guitar using Amplitube, an M-Audio USB interface and Reaper. I use EZDrummer for the drums.
2. I'm still a vinyl junkie, so play a lot of 33s.
3. Default I-need-800-albums-available-to-me-all-the-damn-time-so-own-an-iPod option.
The Gale 5 speakers I have now are floor-standing, but I'm thinking I'd prefer something much smaller this time round. I really don't know what I should be spending to get something approaching decent quality; I had anticipated around $500, but really have no idea.
Thanks for your time!
