I downloaded Reaper, because I've seen several people mention that it's free, but I don't think that's the case anymore. When I opened the program, it says "Reaper is not free. It is a paid software product just like one you buy in a box at the store." It's telling me that it's a 30 day trial, then I have to purchase a license. Hmmmm, is there a different free version that I'm overlooking or something?

No, There is no difference and after the 30 day trial you just have to put up with a 5 second nag screen upon fire up. but it is always best to be legal in the long run. ;)

I don't believe Reaper has ever been free (not over the 4 years I've been using it). But, a lot of people *say* its free because the software doesn't stop working after the trial period and the "trial" version is actually fully functioning... for ever. I think you'll find that its easily worth the $40 to get rid of the 5 second nag screen. So, use it as you see fit and once you find the value in it, cough up the $40. :)

I think it's $60, not $40, but it's easily worth it.

Reaper's free to TRY. I always recommend it to people looking for a DAW on that basis - after 30 days if they decide it doesn't work for them, they're not out any money and they can move on to something else.

Since they update it three times a day, I say the trial period should reset with each new version :laughings:

I've seen several people mention ...

Hmmmmm, you jumped on what some posters SAID rather than look at the website and licensing fee clearly listed there???

Can I sell you some land down here in Florida???

All kidding aside, take a look at the $200-$600 packages and then look at that measly $40 for Reaper.
You can buy a LOT of gear for the difference.
'Nuff said....

lol, yeah the $40 is not that bad. I did look at the Reaper site before I came here to post. I was just wondering if there was a different free version, because I had read several posts mentioning that it was free. I'm trying to buy a lot of equipment all at once, because I'm just starting out and I'm on a really tight budget, so I'm trying to cut out as many extra expenses as possible...

OK, lets spell it out for you real slow..... There is ONE version.

You can download it and use it with NO restrictions except a 15second nag screen.
After 30 days you are on YOUR HONOR to cough up $40.
(No ones gonna break down your door if you take 31days or 50days, but hey the guy is giving you the equivalent of a $200-$600 program so give him the measly $40 when you can...)

It beats the heck out of dealing with the mega-corporations in Germany and Japan, too...

Hold out of the 40 bones and the guy'll have to quit making it too. Sumink to think abaht.

Yes, TimOBrien I understand that. I understood that several posts back. You don't need to spell anything out really slowly for me, but thanks anyway. I was just REITERATING my original point and explaining why I asked in the first place. I got the point a long time ago. Thanks for your input, though...

Id use Magix Music Maker...there seems to be too many bickering Reaper users :D

hey does Reaper have a soft amp package?

Music Maker comes with Vandal SE which is awesome for only $19 more!! :)
