(psst)...I got my Avalon M5 for $599 at GC.
If you ask many salesguys, you may find a great pre in the "demo" stock. You have to bug them to look. Once I found out about the demo stock, I raided it

I buy off 1 guy. I find the "easiest to deal with " guy and talk about what I am looking for. I waste his time in a *very* nice manner. I wanted an Avalon M5 and a U5 (on two different occasions). Each time we would hammer down the price, new. I was interested until he said he may have a U5 used. He looked in the back and found 4 demo units that were supposed to be used. They were dead new in the box. I bought it for $399. The M5, some weeks later, was in the "demo" pile. It was opened, but looked untouched. He gave it to me for $599. I then started just asking about demo items. I then got a Joe Meek VC1 for $400. Then a DMP3 was there. I got that for $99.

Now, I have no idea as to how all GCs work, but, I have a gravy train going and a Distressor eyed. Hopefully, he told me around $600.

I don't know if the other salesguys even know about demo stuff. This guy seems to know the backroom contents and how the demo equipment disposition works. YMMV.

Good Luck and keep bugging them.
