Surprisingly, the two books I purchased and PT Help itself does not explain exactly how to manipulate and edit volume throughout a track. This defies all logic how such elementary instruction could be absent, but oh well.

Basically in the middle of a track I want the volume to go down to a certain level, then several seconds later, go back up to the original level. I want it to be precise. How is this done? At an anchor point, the volume is one number, then seconds later it's different, I know it's simple stuff but it's still not easy to figure out.

I would like to change the volume of a track in different regions. The only way I know how is to use the hand tool and click a point in the track to make an anchor point, and drag the volume up or down. But if I send the marker to the beginning of the track, set the volume at "0". Click a point a few seconds in and the volume has changed. I don't get it. There's an anchor point in the beginning, then at the spot where it starts to fade. I'm blabbering but it's just not easy to figure out exactly.

thx.

I do believe it is in the book, I'm not in front of my protools right now to give you a detail explanation but what you are wanting 2 do is setup Automation. So find that area in your book because that is it.

I'm in no way any kind of ProTools authority, but I just learned how to do what you're speaking of.
RD423 is correct. What you're seeking is "Automation".
Open the "Mix" window, find the track you want to raise/lower the volume on. Above the volume and pan adjusters, there is a button that says "Auto". Right-click it, and select "Write". Play your song, and manipulate the volume slider in the parts where you wish to raise/lower the volume. When you're done, the "Auto" button that you clicked should read "Latch". Play your song, and watch the volume slider do exactly what you wanted it to. If you don't like what you did, click "undo" in the "Edit" dropdown menu, and do it again. Like I said, I'm no authority, still a newbie.

that's one way, the other way is to insert volume envelopes onto the track. In pro tools just right click the audio track you want to adjust and you'll see a drop menu with envelopes> volume. There's also pan envelopes. Make sure you insert a bullet at the beggining of the track at the desired volume for the majority of the track, than at the parts where your lowering the vol. insert two more bullets and drop the second bullet to the desired vol. You'll understand once you try it. That's another way of automation. Good luck~LV:D
