Ready to take the plunge.... I think

Just to point out, all of this is purely for the convenience of seeing the words in real time.

I can see why that's desirable, but personally I'd just import the stereo wav into reaper and set up a new track to record your vocals along side the backing.
Print the words on a sheet of paper or keep them on screen and save yourself a lot of hassle. :)

That would mean you need an interface with one mic preamp and that's that.

Just my preference.

That's what I would do also. The difference in workflow compared to benefit is pretty significant. It makes no sense to continue to use the karaoke program on another computer if you can simply import the song into Reaper and write down the words.

I haven't purchased an audio interface yet, and If I can use one pc to accomplish this I'm not seeing much extra hassle. I already have a dual monitor setup, so what am I missing here? Play the song on one monitor, and record on the other with reaper.

Got this set this up, and was close, but couldn't seem to get the mic to work along with the playback of the S/PDIF Karaoke track. Need to play with it some more when I get the chance. Pretty much something to do with the assignments of the analog and digital going into Reaper I think. In the Tascam control panel I can set it up as analog ch1/ch2 and SPDIF ch3/ch4, so I should be able to set up the same in the Reaper tracks.

Reaper share audio. Not sure how you past the lyrics part except put them in a text file, but you're going to have a hard time (not sure it is possible) recording on Reaper and playing the song on the same computer.

Update: I purchased a tascam US 366 interface and after many hours of scratching my head, it is setup and working with reaper to record my karaoke tracks with lyrics on screen from one pc.

I am currently running my karaoke software from my onboard sound card to RCA inputs on the tascam (until my digital coax cable arrives) and recording a stereo track for karaoke and mono track for vocals.

Very easy to use and is exactly what I was hoping for. Play song with karaoke software, hit record in reaper, and sing with lyrics on screen. Hours of entertainment ahead!

Now I just need to figure out how to save songs in mp3 format so the files aren't so large.

Thanks to all for your help!
