Reading CD24 on a computer

I just got an ML9600. I have lots of vinyl to transfer to Red Book and, I hope, CD24. I made my first successful transfer this afternoon using the Red Book format. I also tried to record and transfer a CD24 to my computer. I ended up with an AIF file which my computer recognizes but does not read correctly. I have various audio editors but none works. What's likely to be the problem? Where do I start looking for a solution?

Thanks,

I have no problem reading AIFF files in both Cubase and Sound Forge...

What s/w are you trying to open it with?

Software I use

I tried iTunes and got a sound that seemed like 1/4 speed and I didn't see any way to change the speed. Then I tried MusicMatch. No luck. Then GoldWave. GoldWave said the file was inconsistent, but when I tried it again this morning, I still get the error message but it plays the file OK once I open it.

I would like to be able to load CD24 files onto an iPod Mini to hear what they sound like. That would be easiest with iTunes. Since AIFF is an Apple format, I assume it should work. I just don't know how, yet.

Thank you,

I don't know if IPod supports hi-res AIFF files.......

Mac versions of recording software (Cubase, Logic, etc...) certainly does....

More Information on reading CD24

Thank you, Blue Bear.

I don't know whether iTunes reads hi-res versions of AIFF files. I did notice that while I could load the file and play it (at slow speed), iTunes "misread" the sample rate and set it at 65k, when I recorded it at 96k.

I'll see what I can find out about iTunes. I am also inclined to get a copy of Sound Forge 7. The reviews look great and I don't need multi-track editing capabilities.

Success!!!

As I write this I am listening to the best digital sound I have ever heard: A CD24 from good vinyl! Thanks, Blue Bear Sound for mentioning Sound Forge 7. I bought a copy and it read my CD24 file without any problem.
