Re amping?

The Egnater stuff (MTS) is in a whole different league. Have you tried it? You can get a 4 module preamp, and a power amp that has a 6L6 output and an EL34 output. Talk about versatility! I know randall was pretty much junk in the 90's though.......
It isn't the designs or the ideas. I was consulting for both the Warhead and the Colossus (Paul Stanleys head). The designs were fine, then the bean counters came in and found just enough ways to cut corners that no two amps sounded anything like each other. (all the parts were +/- 10% at least) I would set one up and it sounded like it was supposed to, but it wasn't very loud (for having a 300 watt power amp), the next one could rip your face off, but it sounded like shit.

They have done this with everything that company has built since the dawn of time.

So, I take that as a no you haven't used them then, right? :D LOL

A lot of the MTS stuff isn't even made by Randall, and you could always go with an Egnater setup. Super Versatile, and while not perfect copies, damn close on most of the modules, especially the Egnater's and the Eden built ones.

I'm just sayin'........ :D

Consider yourself lucky that you got one that works right. Hell, they couldn't even get Dimebag two Warheads that sounded right. Washburn now owns Eden, they will find a way to screw that up too.

The band that has it is an old school power metal band (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc...) and it works fine. I'm sure you could get something more modern out of it, I've never had to try.

I would still go with the Mesa and just a different setting. The ENGL's, just like the Marshalls, are one-trick-ponies. Each amp they make does one thing very well. If you need that one thing you are fine, if not, you're screwed.

mmmmm...mesa

Farview and NL5 are both right about Randall. The MTS stuff is awesome, and the company itself is a joke. Washburn, Randall, Parker, and Eden are all under the umbrella of US Music Corp. In general their products are not bad, but as an organization they are miserable IME. I have dealt with them directly on several occasions and each time it was a nightmare.

Pretty hard to find a likable company that also has good products. Does anyone really like Digidesign, Waves, Gibson, Fender as companies?

Stuff like "come and get your amp, it's ready now". I make the hour drive, show up and wait in the lobby for 2 hours (literally) while they try to find it and make frantic phone calls. In the end I am happy with the gear and I try to remove those experiences from memory.

Kirk Hammett now has signature MTS modules FWIW.

The nice thing about the MTS stuff is the versatility. I can't think of a better way to get a wide palette that actually sounds good. I'm sure the Egnater stuff is great, but it's very expensive.

Anyway, enough about them. I would think that if you're gonna drop serious coin on an amp, you should really try it out first. Just do whatever it takes to do that. Any other purchasing route is very risky.

Good advice.

Thanks all.

Is it pretty versatile?

It is the most versatile amp on the planet. It's not a "modeler", you actually change out the preamps. If you get the rack power amp, it is switchable between 6L6's and EL34's too.
