I tried this technique out last night for the first time.

Basicly, for those who don't know, it involves taking a send form your mixer, routing that into an amp (tube of course :D) and then micing the amp and sending the signal back to the board. This all takes place during mixdown. You can use it for anything not just guitar.

It truly is a tasty technique ;) Ani Difranco uses this a lot on her mixes- yes she actually mixes herself (with some help of course) I think a lot of Steely Dan's guitar tones were done this way too.

I sort of "cheated" last night by using the recording out on my amp- but I can't wait to try it with a mic! This will probably be really good for me cause my tele buzzes so like mad in this apartment and I can't mic the amp- just too noisy- but the reamping thing gives me some hope that I'm be amp to get some "real" amp sounds :) It's just a matter of finding someplace to stash it where I can't hear it.

Any body done this before and have any tips/experiences/troubles they could share.

I do this with my keyboards. I usually do it when tracking though. I plug the keyboard into my amp, then mic that, instead of running the keyboard direct. I like it alot :)

I wonder if any of you have had to use something in between the mixer and the amp ---- I mean, most amps are used to receiving a signal with a different impedance than what is coming out of the mixer --- How do you deal with that?

PPatrick,

I have encountered a few problems, I have to keep the signal that is being sent to the amp pretty low, otherwise I get some really wierd cliping. I wonder how the pros do it?
A direct box may help.

One thing that I'm going to do fot this one particular track is to put my volume pedal and my Deluxe Memory Man in line to the amp so that I can put the effect in where I want and control the volume without using my hands- It should be really fun!
