Rate me singing!

whew... there we go, people really start repling whe the threads at the top lol, serioulsy though I do believe what grn said. It's true being famous really does make the differance alot too. I mean people tend to like what's familliar. And especially when it comes from an artist they know. On another note, Yeah I know for sure that I still need to work on my singing I mean I'm alot better than I was but I still have much to learn. I also need to start writing my own stuff becaseu when people hear me (or any cover band) perform someone elses song people are tainted in that they expect it to sound exactly like th original and when things are slightly differant it makes it sound "not right" to them. So people tend to focuse on more comparing the song to the original vs rating it as it's own.. But yeah I agree though I do need more work in singing with my own voice, letting go, feeling the song, and some pitch. I think a big thing with the pitch is the fact that I'm still in the midst of figuring out exactly how singign should be placed.. so to speak, like how a higher note is supposed to be done so that it is easy and not strained. Since I have been singing wrong for so long not that I'm starting to develope the proper way I need to get the muscles a custom to it. I find that when I sing sometimes I find the muscles in my throte try to revert back to the old way (old habits die hard I guess) so this caseues some pitchy parts....

Speaking of pitchy... could you be more specific? Like what songs did you find to be more pitchy? Becaseu there are all done at differant dates. So an older song would probably be more pitchy? Like I know blvd of broken dreams had some massive pitch problems but, you saying which sons and even what parts in the song would help me out ten fold :-) I mean if I know specifically where the problem areas are then I could fix them but not knowing makes it hard to judge... Anyhoo I've rambled for long enough... thanks for you feedback keep it coming please!!!

OK, here is a serious critique: You have a good foundation there to be a good singer. Keep at the lessons. Pitch control is the hardest thing to learn, but as cloneboy put it, it's not THE end all to your being able to become a good singer, and a good vocal coach can teach it. I can't rate where you are right now because I don't know where you were when you started. Coming in cold, though, I can definitely say you're not ready to be the front man in a band yet. Keep at it, and don't let bad critics and nay-sayers down you. As I said, you have a good foundation. Work on the things we suggested, and the rest should follow if your vocal coach is worth what you are paying him/her. ;)
 
Not the worst. Work on timing. Also, try and sing difficult songs, singing Time of your life is like a marathon runner having a jog round a park.

I've worked with singers and musos for many years and fame is not the real key here. The key is talent. Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and more singers than I can type here sing pretty bad but they are incredible writers and musicians, What they lack in pleasing vocals they make up for with other skills. The current crop of electronicaly enhanced singers have other talents and good sex appeal, simply put they are physically attractive and many can write or cowrite some nice tunes for that genre. They are marketable to the masses and obviously the masses consume their CD's or they wouldn't be continuing in the industry.

So ask yourself the hard questions and be real with yourself. Do you have "it"?
If you think you have "it" then spend the money on honing your craft.

Even if you don't have "it", if you are just trying to improve youself to please you and your family, go for it. The other stuff slobbermonster mentioned will come into play if you are considering a career in a very hard to please industry that requires a total package of looks and a marketable talent. Keep at it either way. There is nothing wrong with wanting to improve yourself! :)
 
hmmmm..... well I know I have "it" deep down I know. It's just a matter of learning the proper technique to letting my voice truly surface. I mean even though I've been taking singing lesosns for about 10 months now I've ust scratched the surfeace of what I know I can do. I mean I'm still trying to figure where my voice should be and just recently... like tuesday I was at singing lessons and for the first time ever I hit a high note... well lol I've hit high notes before but this one was differants, I mean it was the highest I've actually gone before without cracking in my voice. I mean I realized that I've been just pushing up my chest voice insted of going into middle voce which I really need practice doing. I think this is why my voice sounds... "off" I mean aside from the pitchy parts my voice isn't that bad... I know I mean I can sing better than alot of people out there who don't sing ..(not to sound inflated) BUt it's true those out there that just don't sing or don't consider it a big part of there life well it shows in there singing. anyhoo. I find that yeah I can sing a song and it could pass for decent karaoke but it's missing that little thing that makes the differance between karaoke singer and professional singer. I know I have it it's just a matter of letting it come up. Anyone who is any good at judging someones voice would be able to see the potential (I have had many people say this to me as well) It's just a matter of getting the proper techniques down... BUt about this note I sang in lessons, I swear it was the wiedest feeling like for the first time the tone sounded like it was where it should be. It honestly felt like the tone was like coming from inside my head. like there was extra ringing or resonation or whatever you wan to call it in my head. Not as the face mask but like just inside, and it made it sound differant but differant in a good way... I don't know from all that I have been told and read Basically when middle voice is done properly that's what your supposed to feel and alot of people have a hard time getting there because it sounds so wierd in your head but to a listener it sounds like a perfect crisp voice (the way it should sound).... Anyhoo, just a comment in referance to some feedback.

p.s. let me know your thoughts on middle voice :-) hope to get some more feedback
 
ewww double post I know I know. But come on some one else reply lol. I mean the moron you did the fArking you face thing got more replys than me and it was like all flames. Come on I mean his stuff did suck and I agree with everyhting that was posted there but coe on if you can take the time to comment on his drivvle you can post something to help me. Someone who is actually serious about this lol.

Comments on your singing

Well, I listend to the Dec version of Good Ridance, which I thought wasnt bad singing.

The voice was a little to out front and a little to loud, but thats a mixing thing. Your voice is well suited to that style. It seems like you are singing louder to go higher on notes that shouldnt need it. IMHO.

I dont know what all the bitching was about. Hes not a bad singer. Greenday themselves are NOT great singers, its not that kind of music IMHO. He sounds as good as they do, not as believeable though as was said.

As far as believability, you dont have to write your own songs to sing them with soul. An actor doesnt need to write the script to be believable. Half of singing is acting, making yourself believe it, then singing it. Listener will believe it then, I think.

His diction is decent.

Keep working on it. Dont listen to criticism unless its constructive. Give you credit for posting and wanting to better yourself.
