Rack mount PC case?

theres a pretty alright antec on newegg for about $120 with a 300w power supply. its almost the only racmount case on there with no negative reviews about harddrives being hard to install or anything like that
 
I have installed one of those D400 cases and they are nice.

What all do you have it it? How are the dust filters? Any problems?
 
Running a pentium D with a ~500 watt PSU 2 burners, 2 HDs. Pretty straightforward design and a snap to work on. There are only foam strips in the door for filters

Are there any other intakes for dust to get in?
 
You may wanna think about the whole fan thing...fans are &*(^ noisey...

having a purpose build music PC might be best when it comes to rackmounting... like a Carillion.


Oh and I've had an Antec Aria, supposedly the most quiet PC case in the world....

bad news is: it was still kinda noisey, due to the CPU fan (pure copper zalmann at lowest speed so that can't be it). I own an Imac G5 now wich is way quieter.

Rack mounted machines are actually quieter than if you didn't mount it. You have the rack to act as sound buffer, not to mention if you put foam on the sides.
 
theres also high frequency absorbers you can buy and line the inside of the case with.
 
Rack mounts are not quieter. Well built computers are quieter and it really has nothing to do with the rack. Often times they are actually considerably louder. As far as the rack being a buffer, it really isn't. In fact it can often times project the sound. It really depends on your location, parts used, set-up etc...

That's pretty much the situation. A quiet case depends on several different things:

Number and type of fans
RPM of said fans
"isolation" Matting present?
Power Supply


The type of case really doesn't matter as they are all built pretty much the same. A rack mount case is nothing more than an ATX tower turned sideways with rack ears.
