Hi guys

I'm relatively new to all of this, so apologies in advance for any annoying naivety!

I have Adobe Audition installed on my laptop (Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7) and I am looking to begin using it to create multitrack recordings of live music. I purchased a Behringer Xenyx 1024 usb, having being impressed with other Behringer products and being led to believe that I would be able to record multiple tracks at the same time (acoustic guitar / percussion / vocals isolated in different rooms), with the ultimate goal of being able to mix / edit the tracks individually.

Having successfully managed to get the sound through to Adobe Audition via the mixer (after installing ASIO drivers) and managing to capture audio, I seem unable to record individual tracks - I am only getting one main mix with all of the tracks represented as one audio file in Audition.

Is the Behringer Xenyx 1024 usb unable to record multiple tracks simultaneously, or am I missing something in the setup?

Many thanks in advance for any available help.
Chris

I can't seem to find the exact model mentioned in your post.
However, the majority of the Xenyx USB mixers simply have got a stereo USB interface.
There are models with more I/O: XENYX UFX1604 have got a 16/4 firewire/usb interface.

The Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB only records the stereo mix not the individual channels, who led you to believe that you could? If it was a sales person take it back. Having said that, the Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB is not a bad unit for the cheap price. You can record 2 things at a time (left and right channels) and then over dub other instruments / vocals, you just can't record individual channels at the same time.

Cheers
Alan.

Thanks Alan - no it wasn't a sales person, just my own lack of insight into the tech. Recroding two tracks using panning should suit my needs for now.

So I could, for example, plug in four mics and record four tracks panned left (ending up with one track in audition) and at the same time four different tracks panned right (leading to a seperate track)?

Yes, you have it correct - you can record 2 separate tracks at one time - anything panned to left will be on that track and anything panned to he right will be on that track.

Just to add that having more than one thing in each track (as per your "4 panned left and 4 panned right" post) is seriously limiting in what you can do with the mix. You can't rebalance any of the individual components of each track.

Cheers Bobbsy. It should be ok for what I need to record simultaneously - guitar & vocals - which I will pump through one track each and then layer everything else individually. Longer term I'll be saving for a mixer with more outputs!
