quick one -

does the center time-code channel make the tapes from this machine unuesable on other 1/2" mastering decks? if, for instance, I send a tape made on an E-22 to a mastering studio that has an ATR, will it have excessive noise because of this unused channel bleeding into the heads? Thanks!!!

No.

They squeeze the timecode head into what's otherwise the standard gap between head elements. Remember, the E-22's a 1/2" recorder, so that leaves plenty of real estate to put the timecode head.

The E-2, Model 20 & BR-20T are 1/4" transports, but the principal's the same. If your deck is aligned properly, there should be no bleed of the timecode onto other tracks. ;)
