After updates are downloaded, and the installation begins, do I need to maintain an internet connection, or will the installations continue without?

Previously, my Win 10 PC had a constant internet connection and all auto updates took place in the wee morning hours while I slept. Never a problem.
Now that my PCs are connected only when I use my phone's hotspot, my updates are manually instigated.
So today's round of updates took about 3 hours - 45 min for the Win 11 laptop and 2 hours for the Win 10 desktop. Downloading went relatively fast, but the installations took up around 90% of those times, especially the Win 10 system. I know this isn't unusual, it's just the first time in many years I've done this manually, having to watch and wait during my waking hours.
So getting back to the opening question . . The installations took forever and I'm wanting to find out if I can disconnect my hotspot phone when they begin, so I can go about my business with phone in hand.
