I can't really help you find a good punk tone 'cause I've never played that style.
And probably another amp would be best but you gotta work with what you got.

And I guaruntee you there are pedals out there that'll get the sound you're after.
Problem is ..... they're gonna be some expensive boutique stuff and there's no way to try a lot of them before you buy.
But there's gonna be something out there that'll do it.
And good pedals don't thin out your sound.
I have a pedal board with ummmmm .... 7 pedals on it and I have obsessively tested pedals until I found some that didn't affect my tone negatively.
I have good ears and I can hear virtually no difference between plugging straight into my amp and going thru the board.
I did have some pedals that did change the sound and I quickly ditched them.
But going thru a buncha pedals looking for the right ones can get expensive.
I have 900 dollars woth of pedals sitting on my board and several thousand dollars worth sitting in the next room after being rejected.

Maybe it will. To really lock it down, you should bring your guitar and amp to see how they're actually gonna sound together instead of taking a guess. That guitar probably has the 490R/T pickup. Good pickups. Cool guitar. I'd say leave it as-is.
^^^^^ this ^^^^^

Using their guitars and amps will be a waste of your time.
Different amps and gits react VERY differently to the same pedals so you gotta go to the effort of taking your rig down there.

...and just so it's not overlooked, I'll say it again. experiment with the FX loop(if you have it)

I cannot stress how dramatic a difference it made in my sound. no kidding, it sounds like a new guitar, amp, AND peda
in general distortions don't usually work very well thru FX loops.

but isn't buying an expensive amp to replicate your hero's sound kinda the opposite of punk?

So I ended up getting the Boss OS2 (distortion/overdrive pedal) and I love it. Went to guitar center with my guitar and asked someone to let me try out as many distortion pedals as I could through their hot rod deville 212. It basically came down to the boss pedal which I got, and a full tone distortion/overdrive pedal. The boss seemed to have a bit more of a punch in the low end and was 65 bucks cheaper. I'll be playing with this pedal constantly before the 30 day return policy ends so if I end up not liking, I'll bring this baby back and get the full tone. As of now, I love it and it's definitely giving me the sound I want. The old boss distortion pedal will never see the light of day now that I have this guy.

Thanks again for all the help guys. Much appreciated.

I'm just tired of it. I've been using the MT-2 for well over a decade. I've gotten all the mileage I can get out of it.

my next pedal will probably be that HT-Dual you raved about. I researched it a good bit, and I'm pretty excited about it

They have a few HT pedals - some are cheaper than the dual - there is a single channel and a distortion I think - The dual actually has 3 channels cause one has a clean/dist switch.

I looked into all of them as extensively as you can on youtube. the Dual is the only one I really liked. seems the most versatile and sounds the best to me

A little late but my proco Rat worked great in my punk rock days.

Any pedal would work for punk. It's punk. I had one of those old mini Danelectro distortion pedals and i fkn loved the feedback it produced! It was so dependable for a nice controlled sustain for a beautiful intro to a live set. I still have it in my box of nostalgia. I am not ever parting with it. I used it in unison with a Boss DS-1. Classic.

Those were the days. :(

I like the RAT too, it seems to have the highest OD of any of my pedals.

The DK's comment was spot on, my Vox with the Hall of Reverb, delay and a Rat
pretty much nails Holiday in Cambodia.

I was at one of their shows in a gymnasium where a fight with security broke out,
the cops brought helicopters and were flying in a circle around the building shining spotlights
in while the DK's played Police Truck. We got run out and marched off with the PR24's.

My friend who I ran into by accident (this was in another State) was tripping, and hung back to throw beer bottles at the cops.
We said, "see you later, we gotta go," and ran. He later OD'd on Heroin.

What a life.

Hope you find your punk rock sound, kid.
