whoa now...that's a little harsh. and no i only voted once. i'm sure people could find problems with yours too Lemon (to me it's got a little too much high end...doesn't compliment the vocals that much). I think Giles did an excellent job. Let's just be greatfull xfinsterx allowed us to have the opportunity to be in a contest. It was for fun afterall. :cool:

i liked the snare...and the bass drum i couldnt hear
 
Next time.

Next time i do this, the files will be in 44/16.
That way i can handle the band width loss.
And When I set the due date itll stick!
I just freakedout a little when my band width was nearly gone!

With that said im stoked so many ppl entered though!
And i think next time ill see if i can get one of the vets around here judge the contest.
That should curb any confusion. :)
 
Hey Lemon. This was only a nice practice thingy.

Back in the days of motown they'd bring in 2 or 3 guys to mix a track and pick the one they liked the most. Did the other 2 guys get all bent. NOPE. The goal in mixing is to try and figure out what the client wants and what the song dictates and mix accordingly. I was guessing cuz I dont know this style of music so I mixed it how I heard it. he still had complaints about it. Am I upset?? No, I just fixed the complaints he made me aware of and reposted an additional mix while leaving the original to be listened too.

Nik D tole me it was Tubby in the bass. I assummed he ment I had too much bottom. I know I mix heavy I dont get touchy about it, I adjust accordingly.

My clients up here like the fact that I mix bottom heavy. Different people have different needs. I didnt slam your mix. matter of fact I liked some things about it the only down side I saw was when the band comes in I felt it didnt "take me there" and it felt too bright. But you envisioned it one way, I envisioned it another. And then I offered to help you by asking you to describe your control room, gear, etc....

it's all opinions. If everyone told me my mix sucked I'd a been like ok. No bigge tell me what I can do to make it better.

You said it was fuzzy. Well for my benefit, explain fuzzy. Was it too dark? That kind of feedback helps me do a better job. And it should help you as well.

I train guys all the time to be engineers and I tell them this #1 rule. Throw your feelings in the garbage. Nobody cares how you feel, they only care about the end result. Live by that rule and you will work with everyone.

I am not ragging on you, just dont be nasty when expressing your opinion. In this biz good attitude takes you VERY VERY far. hell I got a chance to Mix Prince's Concert back in 1997 at the Chicago Bulls Arena cuz I was this cool kid from Detroit who kept his mouth shut and learned to listen to criticism and not get all bent out of shape over it..

Hey fin if it helps I own my own server you could place the files there (we work out the access issues b4 hand) and go for it. I doubt I will mix in a contest again, too much hostility out there. :) I just wanted to have at it cuz it was something I had never done before. But i'd be glad to host your files for the heck of it.

Giles deserved to win. His was by far the best mix....

I was the only one that voted for myself also btw.....

And fin...i think to help you next time maybe we should have a download deadline so that the files have to be downloaded by a certain time and if you don't get them then you have to find someone else to copy them from or you just aren't in the contest. This could help save on your server issue. Just an idea. Take it easy alls. :cool:
