You have to convert it to MP3 first.

If you want, email it to me ( blowfish@attbi.com ) and I will FTP it for you (or anyone else).

Way cool! Are there any rules as far as mp3 encodings? Is 128 kbs the standard?

>NL5 - I think I'll take you up on the offer as soon as I get an answer to my question regarding mp3 encoding. :)

 I hope not... I uploaded mine at 256 I think...

I don't remember anyone setting a bit rate limit, but if you do a minimum of 160, you should be fine...

As a judge, I would like to say that from my perspective, 128 or 192kb/s is all you need for the purpose of this contest. Anything less will most likely sound bad. Anything more is not going to sound that much better and is a waste of bandwidth.

2 more days for all entries. :)

Anyone without FTP, just locate a free FTP client like Transmit (do a google search) and use it to upload.

Hey Bryan, How many entries so far? You don't have the entries posted yet, do you?

Any windows user can even upload using explorer.

Copy and paste this address into a blank internet browser window: ftp.p3.webhosting.yahoo.com

Then go FILE-->LOGIN AS-->
USER:contestupload@sbcglobal.net@patden.com
PASSWORD: contest

Then copy your mp3 from your hard drive folder to the website page. (Eg.- PBM6.mp3 --> Copy--> Paste into web page FTP

Tukkis

Exactly.

You can even open an additional explorer window and drag and drop.

I've tried this several times and it doesn't work. This is what I get:
This Yahoo! ID does not exist. Are you sure your Yahoo! ID has an @ symbol?
Perhaps your Yahoo ID is really contestuploadsbcglobal.netpatden.com.

I did a copy and paste of the info from here and worked just fine, not sure whats going on but those are the correct user and password names.

I was going to recommend using Internet Explorer and went to test it before I posted. Turns out, on my system, there was not enough space to enter the entire string (contestupload@sbcglobal.net@patden.com). It chpped off the last couple of characters.

That is probably what is causing you trouble. Just download an FTP client and have at it. It's not very difficult with the right software.

Good Luck !!

Or... just like we did in the 'olden days':

Open a DOS prompt ('MS DOS Prompt' from the Program Menu, or open 'Run' and type 'Command' and press <enter>

At the command line type in ftp ftp.p3.webhosting.yahoo.com

You will be prompted for a user name... Type in: contestupload@sbcglobal.net@patden.com

At the password prompt type in: contest

You will then be connected to the upload directory

At this point, you will need to know THE EXACT LOCATION on your hard drive where you have saved your entry... easiest thing would be to save it directly on the C drive, not in any folders or sub folders (this is known as being on the 'root' of the drive) (easier typing that way.. I'm lazy)

So... assuming you have your mp3 saved to the root of your C drive, type:
put c:\your_entry.mp3

To insure your file is now in the directory, after the upload, type: dir

When you're all finished type: quit

Type: exit to close your DOS window...

Clear as mud?

I don't use Internet Explorer I use Mozilla so I'm not sure what happend. Being a braindead Ol fart I am unfamiliar with the whole FTP client thing. I think it would be faster to wait for my 14 yr old son to get home and explain it to me.

CGibson upload it to the server.

I must restate any entries not on my server by 12 midnight Dec 21st Hawaii Time will not be included.

A few posts back I put up a link to a free FTP client for your uploading pleasure.

Thanks

And people, keep it clean :)
